how to get a fide rating?

Hi, I played 2 rated tournmants, in the first I got 1/4 from rated players with an average of 2116 elo, and the other tournmant I acheived 2.5/6 rated players with an average of 1950. Im playing another rated tournmant next week, I must know what I have to do in order to acheive a FIDE rating

Someone told me that I have to get atleast half out of rated players in atleast 9 games (meaning I have to get 4.5/9 or 6/12 ...etc) is that true? do I have to get now 1.5 points above 50% of the games I play with rated players or what?

What was the round-by-round break down?

They way I understand it, you need three rating "norms" (sort of like GM and IM norms, but with different requirements).

First, you need to get at least one point in your first three games. Then, in two other seperate three-game streaks, you need at least half a point.

Unless you either a) drew your first and last game in the first tournament or b) lost three straight games in your second tournament, you should have a rating already.

If the tournaments were recent, the results probably haven't been posted yet; FIDE isn't the fastest with this.

well the second tournmant was 2 weeks ago so it isn't posted on the fide website

so now I just need to get 1 point from rated players in the next tournmant and I acheive a FIDE rating in november?

There's several criteria that go into achieving an initial FIDE rating.
1. The tournament must be FIDE rated.
2. You must score 1 point or more in the event.
3. You must play no less than 3 FIDE rated players
4. Your performance rating must be above 1400.

@Knightmage I acheived all that in my first rated tournmant and I dont have a fide rating I saw this in the fide handbook

Madclaw1

Ok, thanks a lot for your help

um just curious, what's your rating?

sidduchessmaster

I have a rating of 1338

Hi

To know if a tournament is FIDE rated you would need to ask the tournament director, they would need to register the event and submit the results.

There needs to be a minimun number of FIDE rated members in the tournament to be eligable.

No, I just want to be a member listed in the Fide search database. Like if you search my name, it'll be there, but I don't have a rating.

Then join the FIDE Arena server and play some games. Or, just play in a FIDE rated tourney, though I think you may have to get at least 1/2 a point to be listed..

I have a listing from playing one round in a Quick/Rapid event that was FIDE rated as well as USCF rated.

If you play in a FIDE rated section, yes. Though,  I may be wrong on the score requirement,  as I'm not finding that in the regulations right now.

Whether or not you get a rating will depend on how well you do and how many FIDE rated players you face.

You have to play 20 official games to get a fide rating.

I think so.

My fide rating is 300, but I'm really more like a 500 player.

Players that sign up for FIDE Online Arena (FOA) get a FIDE Identification Number (FIN) and I guess maybe they get added to the database online even with no games. Not 100% sure since I don't keep up with that.

You might spend some time on the FIDE site as they have documentation that will answer most of your questions.

It's only 5 games played under 6.2 (round robin) or 6.3 (swiss) according to the ratings regulations; 7.14 (and subsections). Also requires at least a performance rating of 1000.

AutisticCath

20 games grants you an official rating. <20 grants you a probationary rating.

"It's 9 games I'm pretty sure."

TBH, I'm not certain. I'm just going off what a guy at a chess club I go to said to me. It could be he was referring to the USCF rating system though.

7.14

A rating for a player new to the list shall be published only if it meets the following criteria:

7.14a

If based on results obtained under 6.2, a minimum of 5 games.

7.14b

If based on results obtained under 6.3, a minimum of 5 games played against rated opponents.

7.14c

The condition of a minimum of 5 games need not be met in one tournament. Results from other tournaments played within consecutive rating periods totalling not more than 26 months, are pooled to obtain the initial rating.

7.14d

The rating is at least 1000.

Can you please give me a link as to where this stuff is stated?

You'll have to choose the subsections you want but everything is in the handbook (be sure to use the appropriate dates when available):

Hi guys,

I am an unrated chess player. Last weekend I completed my first FIDE rated tournament with 3.5 points from 7 rounds. Only one opponent was unrated. When will I get my ELO ratings? I am registered to German Chess federation where my national ratings has been updated today. Thanks in advance...
