Sure, although I think playing online would be good to help me see further as long as I don;t use a board.

i'd say one of the biggest differences in getting from 1300 to 1400 is simply reduced error count rather than any specific tactical nous. In addition to a increase in time given to study and experimentation.

and hi to the OP across the estuary.

No, I found his comment really instructional and most of all on topic! ;)

Probably the best way to get from 1300 to 1400 is to increase your rating by 100 points.

Funny.

I think it will be a combination of tactics and calculation but also strategical planning and positional aspects.

Learning a good repertoire as black both against e4 and d4 is very useful at these stages as well.

You will most definately gain the upper hand at the beginning of the game. Which is important to fight for the win!

Tactics, tactics, tactics.

Rsava

Which is why you study tactics.

Studying tactics is not just about seeing what you can do with your pieces, it is recognizing patterns to spot in games so they can't be used on you either.

Think of 1400 as Carnegie Hall. How does one get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice, practice.... :) Good luck.

One of the things I would like to do it to increase the time from 30 Minutes to, say, 30 minutes +10 seconds each move ( or may be 30 minutes + 20 seconds) . I do not see this option at chess.com. This will help me think more before making a move and eventually make a better player. Once you have learned enough, you can switch back to faster mode.

Any one know a way we can convince chess.com to start a new option for playing even slower version of game ?
