How do you get rated in chess like do you have to fill in a form or something and then play a few tournament games???

MrKoovy

It's easiest and most accesible to receive a USCF rating (FIDE is more restrictive and costly), and that simply requires you to play USCF-rated games. You'll first need to become a member. Here's a link to a FAQ that should be helpful: https://www.uschess.org/index.php/Learn-About-Chess/FAQ-Starting-Out.html

My bad, I didn't catch that before replying. FIDE might be the only option unless you're in England which has the ECF.

You need to pay a membership for uscf. Fide is free- just play in the fide rated tournaments. I do not know about ecf.
