How to handle castling opposite sides

In my blitz games, it just seems I can't do it.

What sources can I go to to learn more about this type of chess?

The rule of thumb is create a pawn storm at the opposing king and prevent his pawn storm.Try not to move pawns near your king unless nessasary. If you lose, kill your opponent with a shotgun and if anyone asks you why he died, say "He died from natural causes."

I know that, but his pawn storm just always seems to be faster and deadlier.

Yes, well, it is a race. The proverb "make haste slowly" doesn't generally work with kings on opposite wings. First come first served is the rule.

It is quiet easy, I thought.

I used to castle kingside even in positions that were better to castle queenside (E.g., the White side of some Sicilian variations) because I didn't know much about castling on opposite sides.

What changed that was the book written by Keres and Kotov, The Art of the Middle Game. I recommend it.

Be cautious when castling, especially if the center is closed/locked.

Re opposing side pawn storms: you might like to watch this great vid (Yasser Seirawan lecturing on Nunn-Seirawan 1983, CK advanced variation):

Go for Tal's attacking style.

Go for Kasparov's intuitive style!

Go for Vinci's art style.

When he loses a game, the position looks like Mona Lisa.

I read that an alternative strategy to defending from a flank attack is to counterattack in the *center*, assuming that such an attack is possible--that the center isn't locked up. I've seen that center counterattack strategy work well, in my games as well as in the games of others. It makes sense, too, since the center has a strong influence on everything else. Why struggle for the center in the opening if you're just going to be ignore it during a flank attack? That would be inconsistent. While his arm is trying to stab you in the side, you stomp on his face and abdomen--where it counts.

P.S.--I don't play blitz games, though, so maybe such idealism doesn't work under heavy time pressure.

or dont even castle at all and rook lift both sides .... BANG BANG
