How to install Stockfish NNUE!

Sort:

I want to install Stockfish NNUE on Scid, but I get "The analysis engine terminated without exit code" error. Does anyone know how to fix this? I do not want to switch to other GUIs.

Edit: That happens on Scid vs PC. It does load on Scid, but suggestions for first move are ridiculous. It says everything is equal:

Thanks in advance

On nnue it runs but doesn't return anything

I have downloaded a net and renamed it .nnue but that didn't help

There are no other engine settings, at least none that I could find

I was thinking of asking the developer, but from his blog it seems that his enthusiasm for the project is waning, which is a shame as I think it is a fantastic GUI

I downloaded Tarrash GUI, cant find those UCI engine parameters.

For example, UCI parameter setting in SCID GUI.

Arena is one of the most popular GUI and it is free.

+/- 2 elo? Ridiculous. No way is it going to be that tight of a range in knowing exactly the rating and per what distribution would this be off of, and of what data that has not been made to conform to a distribution that is befitting for chess ratings? I'd say +/-50 or even more while these other items are not addressed. Making assumptions on top of assumptions is not the way to go.

These programmers and statisticians knows x100 times better than you in statistics.

If you look at Stockfish developmental versions, they collect 1-2 elo in every single patches x1000 times to get 3500+ elo,

Stockfish had at least 5000-10,000 patches within 10 years of development.

For example, the estimated elo of the latest patch in fishtest= +0.29 elo

Update, there is no additional requirements for Stockfish NNUE installation.

You can download stockfish and install like previous stockfish, but the engine size will be much larger 21 MB (Stockfish engine 1 MB + 20 MB Neural Networ,k)

Nice, I already have two versions on my PC (BMI2 and AVX), also have the NN they recommend, ("nn-82215d0fd0df.nnue"), and I gotta say that everything has been so good until now, it is a bit better than my standard SF11 BMI2 version I have always had and my SF standard beats all other engines I have... so it seems like the NNUE version has the potential to become the best engine ATM, also Imma test it vs Leela but she actually does not that good vs SF standard so... So far so good on my hardware...mabybe someday I'll have an RTX to test Lella for real, lol.

Also it is interesting that SF's NN's are so much smaller than Leela's, so let's see that future has for us.

Fantastic, it works for me now, thank you

SF NNUE and Lc0 have had a huge brawl against eachother. Even SF11 vs older Lc0 versions were even. SF NNUE is really great, finding insane moves that actually work, but Lc0 returns the favor by playing positions that it can beat SF NNUE at. As far as I can tell, SF NNUE won the matches, but only by 1 or 2 points. They are equal, assuming that you have great hardware for them.

I can confirm Stockfish NNUE works well in SCID Chess GUI since neural network is integrated into .exe file. Now it suggests normal moves like 1.e4 1.d4, 1.Nf3... and so on from starting position. This is certainly the best engine for average PC since it doesn't require a good GPU, but solid CPU which almost every modern computer now has. It combines both Stockfish and lc0 which is excatly what I dreamed of as I saw that Stockfish lacks finding good strategical ideas while Lc0 (which was considered best not so long ago) lacks ability to calculate variations deeply, resulting in tactical blunders. At least, that's what happens when you use this engines on average PC. What Lc0 lacks can hardly be improved and I think Stockfish NNUE has an obvious advantage here.

How does it handle this position?

SF12, I'm assuming

You know how to install Stockfish, right?

Then spend your own electricity and  CPU for your own curiosity. AFAIK, SF 11 takes 1 hour to solve.

Seriously @PerpetuallyPinned? That puzzle is from one of Agadmator's videos, and that's not an engine puzzle. It's a Magician's challenge, and couldn't be solved by engines, unless you count Tal.

PILOTOXOMXD

The winning variation is like 17 moves deep, and it looks like every move is losing in this position. Once you play Nf6+, give the engine a few minutes, and it will say that this variation is extremely winning. Engines trim off lines that don't work after 5/10 moves, depending on your settings. Once Nf6+ is played, it calculates that in 10 moves, Black will be losing.

Noone asked for a jerk's response and my question wasn't for you.

You're not just a pretender know-it-all, you're also rude.

What's an engine puzzle?

I thought engines were 3500+ ELO

Just wanted to see if there was a major improvement...and I don't see what it is. Other than these quick game matches used to establish inflated ratings.

Seriously? That puzzle has been solved since 2018 or earlier by Houdini and shredder etc. No need to play Nf6. Agadmator channel is like click bait for amateur attention.

hey, drmrboss, would you mind making a video on installing SF NNUE?

chenxiaoyuer

Also Stockfish 12 is out and it has NNUE embedded

Stockfish NNUE is a massive revolution in traditional chess engine technology, with a combition of traditional search engine on Neural Network evaluation, resulting in instant improvement of +100 elo to Stockfish.

Stockfish NNUE has two components.

1. Download Stockfish engine

2. Download Neural Network, Neural Network must be kept in the eval folder with  the file name *****.nnue

https://abrok.eu/stockfish/

Then install StockfishNNUE.exe file , the same way you install like Stockfish.

BMI2 could be fastest in most recent cpu, just use whatever is fastest in your cpu.

Right click on the engine display output of Arena.

1. Tick- Use NNUE

2. Locate NNUE file

Note, Speed of SFNNUE will be around 65-70% of classical stockfish speed." i have a problem i down loaded stockfish 64 bit but their is no nnue their
