how to protect a castled king

• You should have a knight on f6 or f3.
• You should move your h-pawn to h6 or h3
• Take care about your very weak g-pawn. (Do you know, when queen is on the g-line, and a bishop comes attack the g-pawn from h3, but the g-pawn can't take it because of pin? That's very dangerous.)
• Pay attention to your opponents move. If that move attacks your f, g or h pawn, think a minute.
If you castle queenside:
• You should move your king to b1 or b8
• You should move your a-pawn to a3 or a6.
• You should have a knight on c3 or c6.
• Your b-pawn is very weak. (g-pawn is the same in kingside castle)
• Pay attention to your opponents move. If that move attacks your a, b or c pawn, think a minute.
Both sides:
• When you're attack, pay attention to you're castled king.
• You can never be sure you're king is safe.
Plus informations:
• You can castle kingside if you're f pawn has moved, but only if one of your knights are on c3 or c6.
I hope this helps you.

"the best way to protect my castled king." ++ With a knight on f3/f6.
"one shouldn't move any pawn at all" ++ That is generally correct.
"one should leave an escape route from the 1st/8th rank for the king" ++ Only when you must.

And, yes, you forgot about queenside castle. You write only the kingside castle. If you castle queenside, you should have a knight on c3 or c6.
