To tell you right at the start - you WON'T get to 1400 till the end of oct not even if Magnus himself was your teacher and you devote 10hours per day to chess. There is only 20 days left to reach your goal of gaining six hundred points, which means you should improve 30 rating points per day and that isn't possible. If you want to be realistic you ahould have said by the end of the year and even that is hard to pull of. With that being said I'm going to give you some advices that helped me almost a year ago when I was 800 rated player. Up to 1000 you need to do a lot of puzzles daily and focus on opening principles. Don't hang free pieces and take every free piece your opponent gives you. By doing this you will easily reach rating of 1000. Just think about your move for atleast 20 seconds to make sure and double check that your move is NOT a one move blunder resulting in missing or giving out free pieces. After you reach 1000 pick one opening for each color that you will play your rated games and learn how to play it. After you find out what few first moves are, reasons and ideas behind them you will get better at them by just playing and analyzing after game is finished. Don't start a new game if you haven't analyzed previous one. Learn from your mistakes. Focus on puzzles, you are now more familiar with different kinds of patterns. Learn some basic endgame principles. I suppose you already know all basic checkmates. Thats pretty much how I reached 1400. It seems like lot, but when you start doing it you will see its not really. Also, if you havent seen it already I have a great recommendation for you. Check out yt series called Building habits how to improve at chess created by chessbrah channel. Its great for beginners. Im sure if you follow rule set they have you wont have any problems improving that way. Best of luck ! :)

If thats impressive I guess my 600 - 1700 improvement since february is ultra genius then?

Immaculate_Slayer

How would she be 1500 rapid easily if she is 1200 in blitz and that's what she is focusing on?

congrandolor

I´ve been trying to get 1600 for seven years so good luck.

Immaculate_Slayer

No, blitz is just another form of chess. They don't relate directly. Just because you don't play bullet well doesn't mean you're a bad blitz player, and it goes the same. I've seen many strong blitz players who are not as good at rapid, simply because they are better in time management and thinking under time pressure.

Immaculate_Slayer

It's literally the same as saying that if she plays 1200 three minute chess she would be a 1500 in 1 hour chess, which qualifies as rapid

No if anything rapid should be lower because of the number of games you can play in the same amount of time as blitz. Of course I'm saying this as my rapid catches up to blitz tongue.png. To reach 1400, just f u n d a m e n t a l s. Tactics are everything to someone like me happy.png So... I guess puzzles? Gaining 600 points in a month is nigh impossible unless you're already heavily underrated, not even Magnus has done that.

Though, 1200-1400 blitz is possible, just gotta work on the tactics and play the same moves faster than before.

Keep going! Maybe try some other alternatives for study if the ones you've been using haven't worked yet. It took me years to break 1000, you can hit 1600 happy.png

bruh how long have you even played chess, there are those who've played for over 30 years just for fun. I've played for over 9 myself, but over half of that just as a random casual player. Just because someone isn't improving doesn't mean they should quit if they find chess entertaining.

I am also trying improve my performance.

You can make use of some tools.

I am playing with chess.com bots.
Today I have my first victory over Sven (1100), but never won of Nelson(1300).

Every bot plays a kind of strategy, Sven plays defensive and Nelson plays a lot with the queen.

I also use Arena as PGN (portable game notation) viewer
and Shredder to run in my computer.

Also the applet for cell phone from Chess.com is good.
You can download it from play.google.com, using the cell phone.

Bots are not the best form of practice, but it's A form of practice...  it's an interesting and fun way to check your progress.. Keep working on your tatctics and look at some masters games to understand how a master thinks... maybe youtube John Bartholomew, Raffael Chess, or even agadmator, although his old videos were much better. it's not the best way to learn but it's one way easy way to improve a bit. I never checked but I heard chessbrah has good material on creating good habits on how to improve

Improving 200 points in 20 is not easy but it's not impossible... you will have to play a lot and do a lot of tactics and puzzles so you can recognize the patterns faster. When playing try to stick to the same openings so you start understanding them better. Analyze your games after you play them.... Flagging techniques come in handy as well in blitz...

Never play with a bot, delete that now, that is horrible advice.

Prove why and I'll support you. Otherwise I'm gonna have to say refuting someone's advice on your say-so is simply going to only hurt the discussion. This is an open exchange of ideas, no?

Nah, I enjoy chess, even losing, and I win as many games as I lose, so it´s no so bad.
