If I were you, I would leave a really nasty message on his notes page including all the naughty words I know!
Oh wait... you already did that

This just happened to me - my opponent just blundered, realised that he was about to lose his queen and disconnected.
I also play a little on FIDE online arena - in many ways not as nice as chess.com - but they do have a strict policy on disconnects which is:
"If disconnection occurs, the server continues to automatically monitor the game in progress. If the player reconnects, they can resume the game but they will lose the period of time they are disconnected; if the player does not reconnect before their flag falls, they will lose the game on time."
I think that is much better and would like to see chess.com adopt the same policy.
PS I've just looked at my games list and the game was immediated awarded to me and rating adjustment made. That's what I wanted but I'm confused as the help pages suggest the games get adjorned for a week and then adjudicated...
chess.com games work exactly like that. If you disconnect your clock carries on ticking and if you don't reconnect you have 0 chance of winning.
Looking from the other side, if your opponent disconnects and doesn't reconnect you have 100% chance of winning.
Disconnecters don't need to be reported, the server knows when people disconnect. They are punished by getting paired more against other people with a similar disconnecting disposition according to what chess.com have said.
That's great :)
In that case perhaps the page on Adjournment
https://support.chess.com/customer/portal/articles/1444869-adjournment-
should be updated ... :)
Hello all
This happens to me quite a lot - I'm playing someone, they make a bad move and either immediately disconnect, or worse, they just let the timer run down. Now, when this happens, I see that little message about they may not have been playing fair and their account may be restricted, suggesting (and giving false hope) that something will be done about them. Then I check out the user's activity, and find that they have been doing this to many people from the messages that have been left from them, suggesting that nothing has been and ever will be done about them. I've just been playing a player named viktorgeo. He made a blunder which resulted in him losing his queen. He then stopped playing. I waited for like 10 minutes for him to move (by this time it was apparent that his move was not going to happen). He then disconnected. I'm currently waiting for the 5 mins to be up so that I can play another game.
Now, I'm not suggesting that everyone who disconnects from a game should automatically have their accounts restricted - this obviously wouldn't work, some people may genuinly have a bad internet connection, which is fair enough. I want to report the people who blatently disconnect/stop playing due to a bad move. There seems to be no option for reporting them, and it is a constant source of annoyance. What should we do about these cretins?
