That's usually my take on games, except for when my opponent is also being passive. That's when I bring out my queen or something to spice things up. Good advice in my opinion.
How to Win-The Passive and Wise

Borg, agree with you! But what if the stronger palyer is also waiting for your mistake while you are aggressive? :)

Hey it is like if he bring a knife to a fight and you have a option of a knife, gun or tank? See where i am going with this. knife vs knife slow 50% win. gun vs knife just aim and shoot. Do i really have to explain the tank......enough said.
In Chess, you face the enemy without doubt, without pity, or remorse. To survive, you must learn to fear nothing at all. Passiveness exists, only because aggressiveness exists.

Hey you forgot the most common tactic in here. The MASTERS OF TRADING PIECES. I have have seen so many players trade pieces to the end game quickly. The king then becomes a scrambling QUARTERBACK. lol
not qb a duck

I noticed OTB that a fide 1600 rated player I was up against was playing passively just waiting for me to make a mistake because everybody knew I was an attacking player.
he even started with e3?!
I tried his own medicine against him I started to play very passively like him.
but at the right moment when he thought nothing happened and he played a very passive move. I started to attack and he wasn't ready for it.
I won the game. I didn't have a pawn advantage I just noticed a weakness at the right moment.

Waiting for your opponent to blunder is a bad policy. Planless quiet moves will get you crushed against even an average tournament player.
There's a difference between Playing chess for the LOVE of the game or "Playing" to Win. Some of these "Playing to win Players" would "Win" everytime if it were possible to win in one move. What they need is a PSYCHIATRIST.
I fully agree with BOTNEY...It's amusing how many "Players" are obsessed with putting someone in Check/Mate and NOTHING else, whereby missing out on not only actually playing chess but many times a result of losing due to not seeing other aspects of what's ALSO going on.
BORGQUEEN
You have JUST agreed with BOTH of us. The fact is,playing to "WIN" quick is in fact NOT playing for the "Love Of The game". Any Dip can read a chess book and find a way to raise their self esteem by "Winning"Many of these CLOWNS if their were a way to "Win" in ONE move would do it game after game, after game.
When i was 8 years old I used to play chess with street checkers who devote most of their time to chess. One old checker told me this: "The easiest way to win is to wait. Let your opponent commit the mistake, get a pawn advantage and it's a one game."
Very interesting! This is very useful in every competition--a guide for patience!
