@president_max: What about the canings? This may be the most infamous aspect of your notoriously strictly authoritarian city-state. These were brought to our consciousness mostly by the late William Safire, Nixon speechwriter/NYT columnist/language pedant, who got into a cross-ocean feud with your Lee Kuan Yew and declined Mr. Lee's invitation to visit for fear that he would not be allowed to return home. We've all heard that you have martial artists caning people with soaked rattan whips, that you don't like chewing gum, littering (I don't like that either), and smoking an herbal substance that my home state legalized in our last election. You don't have elections, do you, and bringing that herbal substance into Singapore isn't a good idea at all, is it?
I am the only one Singaporean

the infamous michael fay incident. funny that many canadians wrote to me in support of the caning ;-)

sale of chewing gum is banned but consumption is not. well, when adults have like juvies ...
we do have elections but it is a single party government.
bringing in 15g of cannabis can get you arrested & 500g gets you hanged. a long time when i was in school we had this import from indonesia called gudang garam which were clove scented cigarettes that had a little marijuana in it. took some time of the authorities to catch on & ban it.

500g gets you hanged? Where I live, we have real elections, and in 2014, we did this:

...and I was one of over 56% of the voters who voted yes. president_max, I'm sure you've seen one of our $100 bills before; and the ugly guy whose picture appears on there is famous for (among many other things) saying "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." I want you to remember this the next time you handle one of our "bens".

I have discovered a glitch in the matrix. Despite precisely correct URL entry, I couldn't get my Wikipedia link to Measure 91 to work (even after over ten minutes of edit attempts) and all this while, someone calling himself president_max was watching me, and he (?) had the time to create a meme mocking my post! He's watching me right now! Time for another cup of coffee and reflection on how to expose this matrix to the world!

500g gets you hanged?
It's even worse. A lot less than that will get you stoned.

@gyrados was from Singapore I believe, but I haven't seen him on this forum for a long time.
I would like to go to Singapore and enjoy some pho.

I've never been there, but their food courts are world-famous for diverse, tasty chow. My area of Oregon is known for seafood and roadkill.
Yes, food here is great!
I can confirm this. Every time you post pictures of Singaporean food I get super hungry.

Visited there in '74. One of the cleanest cities I'd ever seen at the time! The Raffles Hotel had some very enterprising room service.

cos gums can be frightening
