Woman FIDE Master (WFM)[edit]

The WFM title is just above Woman Candidate Master in the women-only titles given by FIDE. The minimum rating for receiving this title is 2100 and is lower than that of its unrestricted counterpart, FIDE Master (2300).

The November 2011 FIDE rating list records 1126 women holding the WFM title.[5]

Makes one wonder how she got that title ? !  She certainly doesnt have the rating to justify it ....

Yes, I am wondering about that.  I looked at her FIDE graph, and her rating over 2014, the year she got her title, didn't go over 1602, so far as I could tell.

All of the post above does not take away ANY OF MY CREDIT as to my victory. I defeated a decent player and am happy about that. So stop the non-sense and focus on the game instead.

It may also be worthwhile to note that the player was rated much above me.

It is indeed an acomplishment to defeat a "titled" player. It's like beating your "resident pro". Even if that pro never played on the pro tour, is not really ranked, it's still beating them, and beating them is better than being a "random".

TheOldReb

Yes , you won a nice game against a B class player !  Congratulations ! Wink

Just a note: I wasn't trying to take away any credit, I was just interested in the criteria for WFM.

She scored 6.5/9 in the 2014 Olympiad. So, she qualified for the WFM Title. Scoring 65% in a minimum of 9 games automatically confers that title:

Thanks Martin , I figured it was something like that . Is there a way to see who her opponents were ? FIDE also gives the IM title for winning your national championship which is silly if said national championship is a weak field but this is what they do .

I used the following:

http://chess-results.com/tnr140381.aspx?lan=1&art=20&fed=KEN&flag=30&wi=821

The FIDE site only shows 3.5 of 5 for the event since 4 of her opponents were unrated.

TheOldReb

Interesting . Also found this : http://ratings.fide.com/individual_calculations.phtml?idnumber=10800530&rating_period=2014-09-01&t=Array

Seems to show only her rated opponents .

Yeah, when I saw the regulation and the 3.5/5 on the FIDE site I went looking for the other results.

See ya, guys. I'm packing my bags 'cause I'm going to Bahamas.

I should be able to win this. With some preparation.

Wow, thanks a bunch.  I didn't even have a clue about how that worked.  I thought it was all equations and numbers that governed everything.

Be careful of sandbaggers, that Sands Malik could be dangerous.

Considering your Avg. Opponent is only 1312, he would be dangerous to you. heh

Possibly, but my avg opponent in correspondence is 1487. I'm not looking to get an IM title though, I'm just here to kill time.

1629 isnt that high. I'm not sure why you'd question him with "have you seen his rating". Maybe if he was claiming people as his chess club are 2629... lol...There are a lot of people here who just play local (so no titles) who are 1600-1800. What's so hard about believing a claim that kids at his chess club are 1629?

I meant his rating isnt really high as WFM rating should be.

I did not get an ounce of what you are saying.

Wasnt directed at you. Was directed at Jamal, who sounded like his comment about "are you sure you have seen his rating" when Vybor says that he has kids at 1600 at his chess club.

But Laos might be the country for me:

Empty vessels make more noise, it is rightly said. Go on Google and type "Rose Wabuti" and click on the FIDE link. Or if you have some of your invaluable time to spare, you can read this forum to have a clear picture of what is being discussed.
