I don't like to play chess any more

I used to enjoy slowly climbing up the ladder and playing better with time, now since a few weeks I just fall down further and further and I play really stupid moves despite not doing anything different. Went fom 800 to 450, and I keep losing games.

I am out. Game's not for me. I enjoyed the first year or year and a half, now it's over. I can't deal with getting worse and worse. Why did I get stupider? I don't know.

Everyone goes through downs and hopefully ups. It is hard not to put a lot of value on the rating number.

You can always come back.

Maybe true but I keep losing so much and I feel like I play so much worse. And the rating numbers are a good indicator that I lose way more games than I win. It was a slow climb, but now it's jus a hard drop down. Trying to learn from my mistakes by thinking about my moves, but I still blunder and I don't always see tactics... It's not fun if you lose a lot mor ethan you win. Half a year ago I won some, I lost some, and that was okay. But once you lose more than you win, it's not fun any more.

Maybe you're currently tilting like me right now, I suggest you try a break and if you still have an itch to play a chess, maybe try a daily chess, it work for me at least for relief for not playing chess.

I started around 800 elo and just reached 1700. I have downs too. Take a break. Watch chess but don't play until you want to play. You'll get back up there.

Also stop playing rapid like its bullet.

Definitely experience highs and lows. On bad days I’ll drop 150 elo. Everyone has bad seasons. Keep watching chess... and keep fighting man.

Maybe the reason why you are losing so much is because you make moves in like 2 seconds.

Never give up

Other than a few months playing as a teenager, never picked up chess again until I was 65 and joined this site. I’m 66 now. Figured it was a way to exercise the brain. I feel a bit stagnant too. I do well with bots rated 1300-1400, beating them more than me, but when it comes to players with even half that rating, they are so much better than the bots, much to my dismay. Gosh, they are beating the Jesus out of me. I’ve become fascinated with gambits, want to study just one popular version, along with understanding the Silican Defense, and see if that will hopefully start giving me more wins against players. I guess I’m glad I didn’t ever play this game much when young. I’ve heard the thousand of hours of playing and studying that others have talked about, gosh, don’t think I would have ever gotten anything else done with my life if I was that driven by chess. Congrats to all who could manage both chess and life though, and even pick up some tournament money along the way

Try the london/karo cann first.... there's a lot that can happen in the sicilian. Can be quite complex.

StrategicFocus

Me too I do not want to improve and play anymore. What's the point of all of this self-study and practice if I cannot go pro. If you go to tournaments, you spend money just to get beaten badly. It is not fun anymore.

You keep losing because you resign a lot. As one of the GMs said in one of his lectures, the biggest blunder people do is resignation.

I would also recommend trying out 70 or even 90 minute classic games. Take your time to really focus on possible moves, come up with strategies and tactics. Stop taking influence from youtube players that play bullets or blitz, you are not on that level anyway. I can also recommend, before you make a move, do this checklist:
- Are there any checks and if so, does checking cause any threats to me?
- Are there any captures and if so, do I leave my queen or pieces hanging?
- Are there any incoming threats from my opponent or can I make a threat or forcing moves?
- Are there any opponent's pawns or pieces on my side of the board? If so, is there any way to neutralise them?

regardless of anybody's skill level, it's not wrong to stop and do something else. There are so many things to do. I recently came back from a half year break.
