It seems like there would be a trailer on youtube by now if it's due out this fall. I did a brief google search & there's no trailer available yet. A bit late.
I have high hopes for the new Bobby Fischer movie and here's why:

The two biggest obstacles for me are, 1) Tobey Maguire , 2) the possible over-emphasis on Fischer's personal defects. Tobey Maguire seems a terrible choice for the role; Fischer was tall and thin, TM is short; Fischer had a thick NY accent, TM sounds like a perpetual teenager. Hopefully it will be a well-done and fair production, hopefully.

(((Bobby Fischer against the world))) is an awesome documentary...
If you have HBO and get the HBO GO app you can watch it or just buy the DVD...

I think every single member of Chess.com should make it his duty to see this film on opening night, and bring one friend. That means that ten million members bringing one friend, twenty million tickets sold at $10 a ticket opening weekend = first weekend gross of $200 million, which would really put chess movies on the map.
I mean, if those religious people can boost up cheaply made crap like Son of God and God's not Dead at the box office why can't chess people do the same?

I am nervous about this movie, for a couple of reasons
- It is like the DREADFUL Checkmate
- People that watch it will think they know everything about Bobby Fischer (similar to 300 and the Spartans) which will be annoying to listen to when some don't even know much about chess.
- It doesn't sell well, resulting in NO MORE CHESS MOVIES!
I will still go and watch it on open night, so don't worry johnmusacha :)
I am sure everyone here knows by now a major motion picture concerning the 1972 Fischer-Spassky match is in post-production and slated for an Autum 2014 wide release.
The film is titled Pawn Sacrifice. Leiv Schreiber is playing Spassky; the role of Fischer is played by Tobey Maguire (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Great Gatsby, and of course, Spiderman).
Even though a lot of people are like, "who would see a movie about Bobby Fischer in this day and age?" I have very high hopes for this motion picture. First of all, the film is directed by Edward Zwick, who has many successful historically-themed films under his belt, such as Glory, The Last Samurai, and Legends of the Fall.
More importantly, however, I'm sure you noticed that cheeky re-creations of the 1970's are in a big way for movies in the last ten years. Just off the top of my head I can think of Anchorman (2004), American Gangster (2007), Semi-Pro (2008), Argo (2012), and American Hustle (2013).
The film is not just going to be about Fischer or chess per se, but is a groovy look back at the sounds and feel of 1972. This will make it a hit. In fact, I heard that Pawn Sacrifice will be quite visually and stylistically similar to American Hustle.
