Here is another review of the movie. I think any chess fan should go see the movie when it comes out. I'll support any chess movie as I'd like to see more chess movies, especially historical movies of chess players or events. A Morphy movie would be awesome in my opinion, as would Capablanca and Tal. But Hollywood needs to know there is money in making movies about chess so supporting films like this one I think is important.

The review of that movie only has 1 thing wrong. It says Bobby was angry with his mother for having "a steady stream of lovers".  There's nothing to back that up. Everything I've read shows that Mrs Fischer had a professional job for most of her life, and did everything a parent could do to help her child.   To sell the movie, Hollywood needs salatious sex, even if its not true.

I think in the movie, Fischer's mom was a stripper.

fischer would not recieve a cent from the movie if he was still alive

Reading that review was like biting on tinfoil.  Steady stream of lovers--what!?  Stormed out of the '62 Varna Olympiad--what!?  First lost to Spassky in '66--what!?  I will watch it, but already I'm less than impressed.

I'm with you buddy.  I'll watch the movie, but THAT 1 review is out there.Frown

The review implies, that the movie, has Bobby's mother comeing home every night with a different boyfriend.

@Brazil_World: One lover doesn't make a stream of lovers. That was Zita his then girlfriend who got him to play chess again in 1992.

(besides they weren't talking about Bobby they were talking about his mother have a stream of lovers which is most likely not true)

Anybody who wants to see the real story about Bobby Fischer should watch the documentary (Bobby Fischer Against The World). This is without a doubt the best documentary you'll ever find on Bobby Fischer.

It'll answer most of your questions and show you pictures you've never seen before. It also has some great interviews and one of them is with Larry Evans. If you have the app HBO GO and are subscribed to HBO you can see it on your computer or iPad or whatever. You can also order the DVD. Well worth the time and money...

Ya know, the more I think about this, the more I think I'm gonna pass on seeing the movie. What moron thought THAT would be a good idea??  the producer, the director, script writer??  I'm sure Tobey MaGuire can get into character and portray Fischer. Hollywoods full of people who can act, and the're full of people who CAN'T. Was this to continue portraying women as "ladies of the evening"??  Revisionist history. Now anybody under 30 will think BF's mother was a prositute. IDK. I'll wait to see MORE reviews.

Fischer's mom was a stripper?? Wow! What a great idea! Hollywood really knows how to get a unique perspective on life! Gotta see this!

It's a well-known screenwriting trope that any single mother character, in any film, set in any era, will be a stripper.  This shows 1) just how far a mother will go to support her children, 2) communicates the oppression of this patricarchal society to the viewer, and most importantly, 3) Strippers are hot, brah.

Especially if Rob Zombie were involved in the screenplay.  Wasn't Fischer's mother played by Sheri Moon Zombie?

Here is the link to the film in IMDB http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1596345/

There's more reviews available there.

And this is Bobby's film mom Robin Weigert.

Agreed, amazing documentary...

I have some hopes for the movie but many doubts already...

johnmusacha

See it anyway!  Don't worry about it, just see it.

Bobby loved a good old rant. He should have been played by Jack Nicholson.

DrCheckevertim

Nah...

iMacChess

@Brazil_World sorry but I just don't see the resemblance, the picture doesn't even come close in my opinion...
