i have no strategy

I've known how to play chess for a while now but every time I play someone now I get condescending comments like 'wheres youre strategy?' or 'wth are you doing?'  I never really picked up on a good strategy I just play one move at a time and make it up as I go.

Dont get down about it, many feel that way, i would suggest the chess.com "Learn" tab, thee are many tools there, and even more are open to your disposal when you purchase platnum or diamond memberships.

Start with the study plans : http://www.chess.com/article/view/study-plan-directory

and constantly use tactics trainer

its the best start

You can improve your game by learning from your mistakes, but you'll get better a lot faster if you do some reading or watch some introduction-type videos as well. Basic opening principles like "don't push a whole bunch of pawns and bring your queen out in the first three moves" will keep you from getting clobbered so hard, at least until you start to get the hang of it. Look for stuff here and on the web - suggested topics would be "opening principles", "development". Youtube is filled with chess videos too, you can probably learn something if you can find some basic tutorials. Good luck and have fun!

Once I started getting familiar with how to win a game with only being ahead by one pawn, I then started to understand strategy. So strategy for me was trying to get one pawn, hold onto it, and clear a path for that pawn to become a queen. It sounds simple, but it is very hard to do. You learn a lot about chess and your ability to concentrate from succeeding in this strategySmile
