I love playing chess but is all the creativity, the spontaneity left the game? I'm a outside the box thinker for example i was playing white and my opening move was knight to h3 HAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!! thats a chess sin cause the center of the board is where the battle is won and loss. I've listen to people recite famous players moves and the chain of combination they did to win or counter. I've lost more games then i've won, I've made moves most of you would be making fun of me for. is there still room for imagination? I've watched masters play and i wanna shove a fork in my leg to keep me a wake. is that all chess is just reciting dead peoples moves and opening and end games. i dont remember the last time i seen a game that actually made me excited to watch. chess is a good game but I'm afraid that there is no imagination left.

Chess is like golf exciting to play but for 'some' not too exciting to watch.

I have just checked your rating. Learn the openings & take the lessons available here. You will go from this......

To this......and remember the magic!!

Some folks who hate theory end up playing mostly Chess 960.

lol. exactly opposite for me don't love chess but it never bores .

thefishizdelishiz

yeah it's boring, just like those pics.

There's plenty of room for imagination in chess, but the imaginative moves usually cannot violate the basic rules of chess safety. Learn the basics of chess first, then you can start thinking about imagination.

thefishizdelishiz

which would be a good time to quit.

If you think it's boring why do you bother with it? Chess is anything but boring.

Take anything... painting for example. Lots of creativity. But there are "rules" too (if you want it to look good) and technical skills you have to practice day after day.

The center isn't good because people say so, it's good on its own merits. Sometimes you can ignore it, but you have to learn the rules before you can play with the exceptions. And just like anything, this means the beginning is picking up those, often tedious, technical skills. In chess this mostly involves not giving away pieces for free. For most people to be able to do this consistently takes years of practice. "Moves of dead guys" as you put it can safely be ignored for now.

And if masters were just playing memorized stuff from beginning to end, they wouldn't run out of time in 5 hour games and make errors throughout.

He's been here two days. It's probably the latter case. Give him a little time to get used to the game. Laughing
