I'm searching for a cheap but quality chess set

Hello guys! Can anyone suggest me a nice quadruple weighted chess set with an 4" King, silicone board and Premier Tournament chess bag? I'd like if you could suggest some products with free shipping, as I'm really stuck with money and I can't afford such good sets with that huge price. Any suggestions? I was looking at Amazon com. I recently saw that they ship only to United States, and, unfortunately, I live in Serbia. I'd like some help with this as for about 3 or 4 months I'm going to go on a tournament and I need the requested items. Thank you in advantage!!!

Regards,

Dario

You might try Amazon’s UK site. I only glanced through the first few pages of their chess sets and didn’t see the items you want being sold together, but they might have them separately. I would guess they ship to Serbia.

This is not related to your question, but do you know the village Srpski Miletić? My ancestors lived there from the 1700s until 1910, and one of my great-grandmothers was from there. I probably have distant relatives still living there.

Hello, Johnkagey! I've considered carving my own chess set, but I've got no idea how could I make it by myself. As far as I know, Amazon doesn't ship free internationally to Serbia, only to United States.

Hello,  OldPatzerMike! Unfortunately, I don't know the village "Srpski Miletić". I'm sorry that I can't provide you the answer. As far as I know, Amazon doesn't ship free internationally, only to United States. And, unfortunately, I live in Serbia.

Eeeek, I missed the Nov 22 deadline🤓

It does seem they've reasonable prices?

  • "Make sure that you avoid Chessbazaar then! They offer cheap chess sets but the quality is also cheap. Best is to ebay nowadays, you can browse through hundreds of pages of chess sets and you will surely find something to suit your budget and of good quality. If money is no object then House of Staunton would be a good choice."

Hello, Stauntonmaster! Money is object in this case. I was searching alot through Ebay and I found a lot of plastic chess sets which are not weighted and are 34x34 cm or 42.5x42.5 cm long, and they were around 12 dollars which come with bag also. On the other hand, those which were weighted were about $30 or more and didn't come with  bag. I was wondering and was thinking how could I make an chess set by myself. But I've got no idea how to start making my own chess set and how should I craft pieces by myself. I was considering about crafting an wooden set.

    Any help would be great!

Hello out there! I guess it's not that expensive $32 for a nice heavy weighted chess set combo. I'm wondering is the international shipping free? I'd like to know that.

I forgot to mention that I found an inexpensive chess set combo by US Chess Federation on Amazon. Here's the link of it:https://www.amazon.com/Supreme-Triple-Weighted-Chess-Combo/dp/B076HB2TQY/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1511615590&sr=8-6&keywords=us+chess+federation

Amazon doesn't ship free internationally to Serbia. Could you find this exact set on the other site for the same price and free shipping? I was trying to find it but I didn't manage to do so. I hope you'll have more luck.

You could ask the chesshouse.com website about this set and about shipping to your country if interested, https://www.chesshouse.com/collections/chess-set-combos/products/executive-ii-tournament-chess-set-combo. It would seem like something you are seeking the question would be in the overseas shipping cost if they have that option for you to use. Take a look and see, good luck.

Hello, QtoQlevel3! Once I asked for the shipping cost at chesshouse, it was around $70 or higher. But, I've seen that at wholesale chess they sell it for flat rate $5 shipping and free shipping on orders over $50. Have you bought their sets before and are they of high quality?

Dario19503

Are the silicone pieces better than the standard ones?

QtoQlevel3

Dario the only set I ever bought at wholesale chess was the traditional Staunton plastic chess sets they had on sale in 2015. I picked up a red/white and blue/natural set both for $22.00 and they shipped them free here in the states. I guess it was s sort of a clearance sale because half of each of those sets had loose weights and that's why they sold very inexpensively. I had fixed all of the pieces with loose weights by applying some clear Gorilla glue into the weight cavity. There were some damaged pieces that needed replacement as well and Wholesale chess sent me the new replacements. I had bought some plastic sets from the Chesshouse website as well. The one pictured is called Emisaro set in Black and tan. Nice style and weight balance to the pieces. The other photo is of the Wholesale chess clearance sale I got and fixed.Your best bet just may be wholesale chess for shipping costs to your country. Good luck on your decision.

Hi again! I guess I'm urged to buy on Wholesale Chess because of inexpensive shipping cost. On the other hand, what have I heard from you about quality of the products which were on sale were low. I'm still waiting for the New Year for some big discounts and therefore I think I'll be able to buy an nice set when the time comes. I've also heard that US Chess Federation supplies are of high quality and that they last for many years to use. Thank you for your kind answer!

QtoQlevel3

Your welcome Dario, truthfully speaking once I had fixed the wholesale chess sets they are extremely durable and will last many years through rough handling and play. A perfect set that I don't mind bringing with me to parks, bars, clubs or any social gathering because I know they are built to take the punishment. I don't like chess set with fragile points and areas that are prone to breakage from a simple drop off the table. Robust pieces are always a winner in my book be it wood or plastic chess sets. They have a good feel to my hand and play well on vinyl, silicone or wood boards.

Hi! By your experience, what do you think, is it expensive for $47 for an carry all chess bag, silicone board and silicone pieces? Is it expensive for $55 to buy INSA Chess clock, carry all chess bag, silicone board and silicone pieces?

Dario19503

You know, I'm a well-known tournament and club player in my country, but I'm not satisfied that much without a perfect set for an tournament player! That's why I started this thread few days ago and I appreciate all the help you guys gave me!

Eyechess

The silicone pieces are not as nice as a weighted set at all.

Also, you very well might have to pay customs for your country when a set is sent to you internationally.  And that can be expensive.  I would check that out before ordering.  The seller might not be aware of your country's custom fees either.
