Usually by the age of 15 you should be at least a master chess player, I believe. Your rating should be about 2200-2400 by now:)

By the age of 15 you should be at least 2400-2500. At least. Or maybe better, 2550. To have a chance.

As your compatriot Viswanathan Anand said: "Nowadays, when you're not a grandmaster at 14, you can forget about it."

Well, a Grandmaster I think you can.

You said that you wanted to be "world champion". I think all the world champions were already masters or grandmasters at your age. It doesn't mean it's impossible to be a grandmaster, but world champion is something special:)

I wants huh?  No offense but I don't think you'll make it.  Anand said if you aren't a GM by 14 or something then you probably won't ever be world champion.  Controls keep getting tighter as more people train.  Soon enough having Asperger's and a photographic memory will be practical requirements.  Being highly gifted has always been a requirement, so don't even bother if your IQ is below 150 at least.

What the heck?!Laughing

Don't choose chess at the exclusion of studies.  However, don't drop chess either. World champion is something most chess players dream of, but it's just dreams for 99.99999% of the players.  Make realistic goals :)

For example, try to raise your rating by 100 points. Maybe attempt improvement in a specific area of play. My current goal is a USCF rating of 2000 and I'm close to it. Afterwards I'll aim for 2100. Meanwhile I'm analyzing my games for specific things I can work on right away.

In other words, take it one bite at a time. It's a game. Have fun :)

You can do anything you want in life, including world class chess, if you put in the work. Others say if you weren't playing quality chess by age 5-6, you'll never be a GM (or World Champ). Everyone has their own personal opinion on this matter, and there are countless threads on this site dedicated to your question... So it all lies with you and how much you want it, no?

Think about it: millions of people play chess and improvement methods keep refining, but we all have an innate potential.  Those with photographic memories and/or certain mental "conditions" have an advantage that common people lack.  If you have a pool of 100 people, and 3 have photographic memories but all train just as hard and all have an IQ of 150 do you then the photographic memory people will be top 3 since they're just like the others intelligence and chess wise but have an advantage over the ohters.

Asperger's syndrome? I thought that was a difficulty in socializing? Are you saying it's better to have such a disorder to become a great chess player? And which I.Q. tests are you referring to? Aren't there many? And isn't a great memory something that can be developed?
