The SendSpace site? I use it because it's a free service. Maybe it's not the most convenient file sharing site, but you can't beat the price. If you know of a better, free file sharing site, I'm all ears.

How much did they rip you off for?

Oh, right, nothing it is a free site. And @EscherehcsE is giving you his time uploading for free.

Stop whining.

i see a value in the compilation of games and therefore i bought chessbase.

The most important part is to keep your base updated. Kingbase is great for Master games. ICOFY is a larger database and contains data from more than just masters and from an older time period. If you want a complete database you will have to combine all of them and then clean it up at least.

I will probably end up getting Chessbase anyway soon, but for now I'm fine with scid-vs-pc and updating Kingbase with the TWIC downloader.

The real value comes from high quality games. Identifying those isn't easy though.

That's why God invented Chess Informant. In the image are two databases. One is of high quality. The other is not.

Hi @EscherehcsE, is there any chance you could share the SCID version in an OS agnostic archive format (e.g. zip or rar)? I am on a Linux computer so can't extract the exe.

Hmm, I never thought of the Linux aspect of the issue...Shame on me. :)

I've uploaded another copy of the ICOfY Base 12.1 in Scid format (Zip compressed) to Sendspace. The download links are good for at least 30 days. For free Sendspace users, there is a 300 MB hourly download limit, and I think there's also a 1 GB daily download limit. (If you download Part 5 last, you'll have to wait an hour to get the last download.)

Just click on the blue "Download" button; You don't have to create an account or give any information. When the browser's download box appears, just choose the "Save File" option, as Sendspace doesn't work with download managers.

Once all five files are downloaded, put them all in one folder and extract the files using your favorite Zip-supported decompression tool.

There are 5 parts. Here are the download links:

I guess you get what you pay for, regardless of creator.

Chessbase 15 has some features I really like.

I may be upgrading to CB 15 in the near future.

It has taken awhile to obtain a complete set of Informants as computer databases. A little luck helped. Ten years ago, my fifth place finish in a contest gave me the whole for the first time. Over the next few years, I was within a year of complete. Things were complete again when I was the first to answer a question correctly on their FB page and they gave me Chess Informant Paramount as a prize. Then I started subscribing. The book+CD combo costs me $180 per year, but I read them and always have a complete up-to-date set.

You can download a large SCID database at my website:  https://sites.google.com/site/fredm/

Hiya Fredm73, thanks for offering the links. May l ask the details of your DB?

For example, are they all 2400+ games ... just random games ... or?

I'm not aware of a recent version of ICOfY Base. I honestly don't understand why anyone would want a games database from 2012. :-)

As far as fairly recent databases, there's Fred Mellender's database mentioned in Post #33 above (Scid format, no details given other than the number of games). There's also Caissabase (Scid format, from Sept 2019):

Thanks so much EscherehcsE for your response!

I recently bought ChessBase Mega 2020 and PowerBase 2020. I use the smaller PowerBase as my reference when I am studying a game, because Mega is inflated with millions of games between weak players. Aside from my own games and those of people I might play, I have limited interest in games played by anyone below master. The larger the database, the more junk.

@EscherehcsE do you still happen to have the icofy database and would be willing to reupload it? if yes, thanks much in advance, cheers.
