intelligence is skill specfic. chess players come from all walks of life. karpov is a billionaire.
If chess players are so smart why they are not millionaires/billionaires?
Hi e4myfavourite--the flaw in your logic is equating intelligence with income. Plenty of smart people excel in low-earning fields, often because they prefer them over more lucrative ones. In other cases they simply lack the traits that allow them to reach insurmountable wealth. High earners are frequently strong type A's with endless motivation, charisma, vision, or the sheer luck of being introduced early to social circles among the affluent. Pattern recognition and retention of raw data are valuable skills, but they simply do not equate to the talents of a CEO, actor, athlete, attorney, surgeon, banker, or other lucrative calling.

Please don't respond to CHEPESIUK. Maganus is far from a billionaire.
And he's far from a Model.
Doing reasonably well and living happily is the essence, I wold not choose to be having a count of a billion if my day to day life is miserable in one form or the other.
Have you ever heard that any billionire ever stepped on the surface of the moon?

Nope, but I'm pretty sure the fact that they're billionaires isn't what's preventing them from stepping on the moon.

Ahh ok i just read what is this thread about... o.k. so i would say that all gm chess players can have the capacity of being milioners (not by chess) but not all make profit of the strong points of their capacity.

pretty sure neither carlsen nor karpov are billionaires.
they are millionaires, but not billionaires.

Super GMs are very smart people. They sought pleasures money can't buy. The top 100 richest person are less happier than the top 100 GM. Just my 2 cents.

doubt it.

Where to start with this mess of a question?
Chess isn't intelligence and vice versa.
Money isn't intelligence and vice versa.

Actually, Karpov is a billionaire. But he didn't make that money playing chess. He is also a smart businessman.

Interesting. I'm not entirely convinced, knowing the chess community, i would've thought this would pop up very often and be highly publicised, but ive never seen it before.
If it is true, i wonder how he aquired the company, did he really build it from scratch? or was it a present from the soviet government?

Garry Kasparov IQ is estimated by "experts" results; 130 or 190!
Neurologists have studied chess players brain fuction. GM's brains have developed DIFFERENT way of fuctioning, not same but better.
Question is about so called PATTERN RECOGNITION of chess.
Same as London tax drivers have extra map storage area even seen bigger with brain scan. London tax drivers have not better memory generally only better memory of London.
Rich people are not either more smart in many areas just the needed.
Have you ever watched a game between two Top notch GMs? I did, I could not understand the logic behind most of the moves. I used to think these guys should be very smart.
But when I came to know about the networth of these guys I often wonder if these guys are so smart, why they are not millionaires/billionaires.
Whether the smartness of a chess player is limited to on-board only or beyond that?
