One word; a Big Fat "NO"
if mikhail tal alive again ,is he able to snach the world crown from wcc carlsen?

This may be true, but I still admire Tal as the best attacking player ever!

A frequent and prominent poster in these forums a few days ago explicitly said that any 2400 today could beat Tal.

As much fun as Tal's games are to go over. In todays world of top level chess, he would get destroyed. Before any Tal fanatics decide to rush the stage and defend him. I am not picking on Tal, or implying he is a weak GM. I just think he could compete with the worlds elite. It is purely my opinion.

He's still the greatest internet blitz player of all time though - as I make the case in this thread:

Under such short time controls, not even the best of the best today would be able to respond accurately to is daring play. They would most likely all get crushed.

Mikhail Tal has the longest unbeaten streak EVER. Not Karpov, not Capablanca, not Carlsen, not Anish Giri, but in top level play the "unsound maniac" Tal holds the unbeatable record to this day.
Tal would absolutely destroy ANY 2500 player alive in a match today. Without even preparing.

It's not unlikely at all that Misha would smoke outside, take many trips to the bathroom due to his kidney problems, drink shots of vodka, and still whip wannabe pfren almost every game.

give tal a year in this day and age to study the game of chess.. the odds change a bit. same with fischer and all the rest. send carlsen back 50 years.. and see how strong of a player he would have grown up to be. all these gms have influenced carlsens game i would imagine.
A fit Tal would lose, like everyone else, to current computer programmes. Against Carlsen I would back him. Carlsen is a strong personality but in the the recent world championship match Karjakin's simple strategy of always playing the safest line got Carlsen into a frustrated and irritated frame of mind. Karjakin does not have the ability to push Carlsen over once he started rocking but once Tal won a wild game or two and had Carlsen starting to doubt himself Tal's aggressive style might well tip Carlsen over altogether. It would not help Carlsen to see, after the games, all the ways the computer would demonstrate to have been available to frustrate Tal's complex attacks.
It is notoriously easier to play the attacking side. Tal is the attacker par excelence. He would have good chances.
"Against Carlsen I would back him"
Tal had a minus score in his two matches against Botvinnik, who won his first Soviet Championship in 1931. Comparing him with and evaluating his chances against Carlsen is just not fair to him. The best players of 50-60 years ago have too many disadvantages compared to the best players today.
The problem is Tal played most of his games before computers got really good at chess. So Carlsen has access to sources that Tal did not to improve his play. I think it is not a fair comparison. If Tal had been playing nowadays instead he probably would have a different playing style than he actually did (due to the heavy influence of computers). So I would say in a lot of cases Carlsen would win. However, if Tal was able to steer the game to a very unclear complex position (such as a King's Gambit or very sharp Ruy Lopez line) and get a little modern opening preparation, I think he would do very well in such positions.

HELL NO!
Any of today's GMs would blow away Tal's unsound junk! His game was all flash and nothing else. Worked back in the 50s. Wouldn't work in the 21st century!

Tal in 1979 when asked if he had developed a more positional style: 'I'd be glad to get to heaven, but my sins won't allow it! Today the squares d5, f5 and e6 (my visiting cards, so to speak) are so well covered! Have a poke in there - there are four defenders!'. For me this is Tal acknowledging that the level of defensive technique had improved, thus vs Carlsen or any of the current top players I conclude that his attacking plans would have hit a brick wall. But what a fabulous and beautiful player anyway, who created many brilliancies. Like Morphy a century earlier he showed that the general level of defensive technique was inadequate and so played a large part in the development of that aspect of the game.

Many thinks they are chess player because in online games they are super grandmaster but in real games they are super donkey master because computer cannot help them in real tournament. That is why they are playing online. This donkey master not even know what is chess all about. Mikhail Tal will beat Carlsen easily. Carlsen is like Kasparov and not in the class of Tal and Fischer

DEFINITELY.... IMHO, Carlsen like many other Legendary GMS like Fischer, Botwinnik, Smyslov and Petrosyan will find it VERY DIFFICULT IN A MATCH.....
Because Tal is a IGNORE THE OPPONENT's THREAT PLAYER 90ù of the times..
Nowadays, name a top player who IGNORE OPPONENT's THREAT MORE OFTEN THAN Tal?
I dont find any....
