If you are in check, it is illegal to do anything(including moving a piece) that does not stop the check. If you accidentally move another piece, you don't automatically lose, but you must take back the move and make one that stops the check.

He just told me the rules between online chess and real life is different. He is so ignorant omg
Why don’t you just obtain a rules book of chess online or offline and show it to him...seeing’s believing!!!
It depends on the time controls to an extent. If it’s blitz, an illegal move is an automatic loss (at the club I play at), if it’s longer then a time penalty is applied. If you’re not using time it’s really up to “house rules” because I don’t think any chess federation has rules governing games that aren’t on a clock.
It’s also noteworthy that different federations have slightly different rules on the situation. For example (playing blitz) FIDE you have to stop the clock and claim illegal move, USCF you can simply capture the king to claim your win.
Im having an arguement between my brother about how he can get me out if i dont move my king out of check when its not checkmate. I accidentally moved up my rook when my king was in danger from the queen, the only possible way to save it was to place my queen infront of my king. He tells me the rules of chess online and in real life are different. he is extremely ignorant please help.
(Tl;dr do i get a take bake if i accidentally move a piece when im check, but can still save my king?)
