Igor Smirnof Remote Chess Academy

I have been watching videos by Igor Smirnof on YouTube.

Presentation wise, I have found him to be a great instructor.

He communicates succinctly and on point with a bright delivery and a happy tone.

His general principal is to move forward and attack, and using that general strategy, make your decisions accordingly.

Another principle is don’t make moves that help your opponent.

And his defensive principle is to analyze how your opponent can attack you in anyway, on your own side of the board. Only look at pieces with that kind of mobility.

So I have found that this makes playing chess more fun and interesting for me, but honestly, it puts me in deep water with complicated positions and a wide array of counter attacks available to my opponent.

So early on in my implementation of this strategy, I am either winning quickly, winning by checkmate when I am short on time, or losing on time or by blunder when I cannot navigate board complexities.

This is all happening in blitz, three minutes.

What’s it like for you when you tryalter your game to improve?

I am a player who honestly has limited upside: not the best board vision, tunnel,-vision thinking, takes me a long time to make calculations.

So my rating has declined, but my play has definitely been more interesting and vibrant.

Psychologically I would rather lose on time but be winning on the board.

Yes, Remote Chess Academy is a great channel. I take inspiration from Smirnov when I coach. Try to play longer time controls and work on puzzles. It should help reduce tunnel vision and speed up calculations. Also, if you are interested in coaching, PM me.

I like a few of his videos only, just not the ones where he offers advice on winning with "tricks and traps". My favorite YT channels are Pegasus Chess, ChessCoachAndras, and NM Robert Ramirez.

His YT videos are good. His YT shorts are trash.

probably play 10 min rapid games, as it gives you more time to calculate all those lines you mentioned and based off of your diamond member flair, if you want to practice your calculation and board-vision use the puzzles. it helps a lot, even independent of Igor Smirnov's rules.
