Good afternoon all. I am a chess player from the USA. I've been playing for 15 years. Around 6-7 of those have been OTB competitively. Throughout this time, I've really been self driven through my training and use of strategies and different opening defenses and variations. However, I seem to be experiencing a slump in my ability to study, learn, and improve. Not including the fact that I am also currently in nursing school but that is beside the point.

The openings which I've taught myself to use are as follows. The Sicilian Defense ( primarily the Najdorf. I do know how to play the Sheveningen a little bit and I've just recently moved to the Hyperaccelerated Dragon because I like the positions that arise from it), I play 1...e5 as well. However I would like to learn some more modern and tactical/sharp openings against 1.e4. Against 1.d4, I play the King's Indian Defense, the Grunfeld, Queen's Gambit Declined, Slav and Semi-Slav Defense. I am trying to learn the Nimzo Indian Defense but it is quite extensive. I've tried learning some off beat or irregular openings such as the Benko Counter Gambit, the Bogo Indian Defense, and the Tarkatower.

I am struggling, at this time, to learn how to study and analyze master games properly. I can get to the opening position but for some reason, my mind just wants to immediately play through the games without thinking about WHY the particular moves are being played. I am trying not to memorize, but instead to understand the reasoning behind the moves. I am also struggling to prevent blunders.

I would love to come in contact with any chess coach who reads this forum post in the hopes that they might be able to offer me some tutelage and or coaching to see how far I can progress in my chess playing because I know for a fact that I am nowhere near my peak. I would love to talk more about my goals and ambitions with chess if I meet the right coach. Take care, happy chess, stay strong and healthy during this time of Covid.

There is a special place here on chess.com devoted only for that and there you can look for coach. You can find it if you open your side bar. Best of luck ! :)
