intuiative vs. calculating= what are you?

are you a more intuiative or calculating player

intuative, as that you just have a feel for where the peices go

calculating, self explanatory....you calculate lines alot throughout the game, going through variations to find the best moves...

what type of player are you

revengeofthepawns

Intuiative.  I've never read chess books, nor have I spent that much time studying and analyzing the game.  What I do is play against myself to pick up on strategy. But mostly I go by feel of where to go.

If you are an intuitive player you shoul calculate variations as well:-)

I try being calculating but end up being intutive since there's just too much to keep track of.  Sometimes a move just feels right, but it's good to put on the breaks, calculate, assess, and evaluate your lines to prove the move is correct.

I think we're all a little bit of both, but I'm definitely  more of a calculating.  I'm good at tactics and terrible at strategy.

Attox

what you are proposing here isn't intuition. Every good player calculates, some people just pick their candidate moves more intuitively instead of conciously evualuating a position.

No good player is just like " nahh let me just play that move, it looks good"

yes

Basically you need to calculate the consequences of your sacrifices. You can't play without thinking. In a chess game, you should follow the principles of the game, and check if the move you want to make is correct practically as well. However, the term intuitive sacrifice does exist, since there are positions where you can't calculate the exact consequences, you can only feel that it is probably good, such as when you sacrifice a piece for 1-2 pawns in order to stop your opponent from castling.

An "intuitive" one, as I have the bad habit to even play Correspondence games like Blitz, not much time for calculation there. And when I'm winning, a single move can consume like 15 minutes.

Congratulations for being the first person to spell "intuitive" correctly on this thread!

chessbond001

well, while playing blitz and bullet games, i mostly depend upon my intution because if i would start calculating then i will lose on time.

but, while playing  a standard game, i calculate variations.

It certainly depends about the current position. If i'm at the opening i don't calculate any deeply because i'm pretty much depending about the common sense approach, but if the position is volatile then i would find it more needed to calculate and check out whether there might be a tactically combination available or that i might fall prey for one.
