It’s private. Not publicly traded. In other words, no stock.

Just because it's a private company doesn't mean there is no stock. It depends on how the company is structured. The owners of chess.com are probably not interested in selling stock. But they may entertain other investing offers.

Oh, right. True. I literally know nothing of the stock market.

Btw there is another Norwegian chess company (I don't dare to say the name) on the stockmarket. Not sure though if many chess players will invest a lot in chess, since it is a very "cheap" sport.

A non public company can have "stock" but they create it and hand out massive amounts just to get investors. I saw this with a non public biotech company once.

I don't either. We have a mutual fund, but certainly don't rely on it for investing or making money. We have private stock, which is capital stock. So it would not be bought or sold on the stock market. But I could sell it to anyone willing to pay an agreed upon price.

Chess.com is probably an LLC, so they would not have any stock that someone could buy or sell. But they could certainly entertain other investing offers. I don't know much about LLCs but I suppose if someone wanted to invest they could offer the current chess.com membership  X amount of money in return for some ownership.

Because its private, investments in a company this big will easily mean investing 10k plus for them to accept
