IOS to Desktop .PGN

I searched, but I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for.  When I play a game at my chess club, we usually analyze afterwards.  Since I have my phone I will enter the game into smallfish or smallchess.  When I get home I want to put the game into my desktop so I can use a stronger CPU and have it available to review with a coach that I skype with occasionally. The only way I can see to export a game from smallfish or smallchess is to email it.  This feature formats an email for you with the game in plain text.  If I copy the game from there on my phone using the old fashioned copy and paste method, the other chess apps on my iphone will recognize the .pgn format.  If I copy the game the same way on my desktop (mac) neither stockfish nor greenchess will recognize it.  Is there any easy way to export a game from a mobile device for transfer to a chess app on a desktop mac?

The PGN format is just plain text. Msybe paste it into a simple text editor and save it with the pgn extension. Then try to open it on the desktop.

The email function in the version of Smallfish I have seems to be broken.  You could try recording games with the Stockfish app for iOS or Giordano Vicoli's Chess Studio app.  They seem to be a bit more robust.

Hi,

I am Giordano Vicoli, the author of Chess Studio. Chess Studio has a feature that allow's you to share chess database with DropBox. So you could insert the game with Chess Studio then you can upload the database to you dropbox account, then you can download the database from Dropbox to your Mac. I hope this will be useful for your needs.

Regards,

Giordano

Hi guys! I've stumble upon this post as I was struggling with the same issue. Not sure whether this is still relevant for anyone, but the workaround I found is:

* open a *.pgn file you previously saved with stockfish (if you don't already have one or want to use another just save an empty file by starting a new game and saving it without any moves),

* copy the moves as exported from smallfish via e-mail (I have copied only the moves, not sure if it works with the metadata as well),

* paste the moves in the file in step one (I used "open with TextEdit" on mac), then save and close the file,

* load the file in stockfish

Cheers!
