Irregular pawn movement

Is anyone else having issues where a pawn gets taken by a pawn who is on the same rank? I've had it happen three different times in different games. My pawn becomes a passed pawn, but gets taken by the opposing pawn directly beside mine. My pawn disappears, and the opponent's pawn appears on the square below where mine used to be. All I can guess is that there is some sort of glitch. It usually happens on the H file around rank 4.

How to do "en passant" in Chess

The last rule about pawns is called “en passant,” which is French for “in passing”. If a pawn moves out two squares on its first move, and by doing so lands to the side of an opponent's pawn (effectively jumping past the other pawn's ability to capture it), that other pawn has the option of capturing the first pawn as it passes by. This special move must be done immediately after the first pawn has moved past, otherwise the option to capture it is no longer available.

See the example below to better understand this odd, but important rule.

Basically, you can take the pawn on it's 1st move as if it had only moved forward 1 square.

E.g. White moves pawn from e2 to e4, the black d4 pawn can take it on e3.
