No. It's rubbish. 1k to 1.5 is beginner. 1.5k to 2K is strong club player. 2 to 2.5K you are interesting. 2.5k upwards you are a monstrosity.....

Interesting....

You can see the rank distribution for rapid  here:

https://www.chess.com/leaderboard/live/rapid

1000 is better than the average active player. At rapid time controls you'd expect to beat the average player 66% of the time. I'll leave you guys to argue about how "good" that is.

at lichess you start at 1500 so  I think the rating is easier to get there.

I am like 1800 blitz there

Chess.com and the other site have really different rating systems tho, when I was active on both I was a 1500 here and like an 1800 there

Mike_Kalish

No, it's a terrible rating. That's where I am, and I suck.

If 1000-1500 is a beginner, what is <1000?

1k isn't "rubbish" If you were to take a 1000 rated rapid player on chess.com and have him vs. any random person on the street he would most likely win

1600 odd aint really master level either… Neither am I, but really, why the attitude of calling other peoples ratings rubbish? No real master would do that.

Cobra2721

cmon dawg u know I never called myself a master, they r just rubish (1000s)

It's all relative. 1000's can call 800's rubbish. 2200's would call 1700's rubbish. 2700's would call 2200 rubbish. There's no point in calling others rubbish. If they enjoy the game and trying to improve is all that matters.

OK

If we go down that route then so am I. And you.

Do you really think you are strong enough to call other people rubbish at 1700? Do you really think there is a rating where you can go around calling people rubbish? There is not.

Being proud is OK, but being disrispectful and putting other people down is just downright lame.

1000 lichess is beginner chess rating, 1000 rapid on this website is a slightly advanced beginner who still drops pieces left and right. 1000 blitz players are stronger than 1000 rapid players. Rapid ratings are inflated compared to blitz ratings. A person who is rated 1000 blitz on this website can play a game of chess without blundering any of his pieces, especially if he decides to play a longer time control game.

dude0812

When a person reaches the rating of 1000 blitz on this website is when a person becomes a legit chess player in my eyes. Before that, it is just a blunderfest, 99% of games are decided by who blunders less pieces.

1000 elo is good, the average rating on chess.com is like low 800 so your definitely above average, don't doubt yourself man, on the grand schemes of the world you are a good player.

TheNumberTwenty

1000 rating is a nice goal to achieve and definitely a significant milestone, but I wouldn't really call it "good." If you have been playing seriously for less than a few months than you are on a good path, but 1000 is just a stepping stone.
