is chess a form of ART?

No. If chess is art then we can call computer science art. We can call football art. We can call monopoly art. We can call gardening art. We can call trolling online art. You can imagine everything is art and science and whatever, at the end of the day you're just making it up as you go along.
Closest to art in chess would be compositions like from Troitsky with a high whimsical and striking factor, otherwise no.

Chess moves can certainly have artistic merit.
Reti's Be8 against Bogoljubov in New York 1924, for example.

techincally computer science is both a language and an art, language is easy to see why, but art would be using it to create a game, which is considered art, or you can use it to make generated pictures, which is DEFINITLY art. football I can see why it would not be an art, but then again, art forms of things do exist. gardening IS an art. through and through. the arrangement of flowers and other plants, growing specific plants to look like things, (take a square watermelon for instance) and using the plants grown in an artistic way once harvested. online trolling is only an art if you do it in the right way. (Minecraft SMP trolling traps, very skillfully and artfully done, some with unique decor). science is not made up, it is governed by theories that are proven and/or disproven, and governed by laws, which are facts that cannot be changed. science is not "made up". (also, art in a lot of cases literally IS making it up as you go along. that's what makes it fun) and if that's what art is, then since board game rules and pieces are made up as the game evolves, it could be considered art. the placement of pieces on an infinite chessboard could be considered art, if you see it that way. how chess pieces are moved is art, everyone moves differently, so it is subjective to the perspective. all in all, I would argue chess IS an art form of battle between 2 minds.
well, IS chess a form of art?
