I see you're 1600 blitz.

As long as you're 8 years old, then sure, you can consider it.

Otherwise...

llama44

If you can get to GM before 15 that's a good sign.

Otherwise play for fun. You can become a really strong amateur, but not a professional player.

No, would be a simple answer.

No. Chess is a game for children. Any adult should be embarrassed to play it.

llama44

You only say that because you're not any good

Uhohspaghettio1

I think I would say it anyway.

llama44

I'm just saying, you're usually the pessimistic type. I've only ever seen you post about things you don't enjoy, or about things that annoy you.

@llama44 play me in chess I’ve taken Down a 2,000 rating before!
llama44

Ok, I'll play some unrated games at whatever time control you want.

FYI, a 200 rating point difference means that the higher rated player is 4 times better.

llama44

What does that even mean? 4 times better?

A 200 point rating difference means the player is expected to score about 3 out of 4.

It's probably a good career if you aren't interested in money, security, a future, or family. If you really like chess and dont mind spending a lot of time making little or no money, then it could work.

A 3 to 1 ratio means that the stronger side is 3 times better.

I'll give you an answer as a chess professional for 20 years.

To some extent it depends what you mean by 'good'. If you're by some miracle talking about being a playing professional, no, absolutely not, that's never going to happen and you should forget that immediately.

Maybe you could look at doing coaching - that's a nice little earner in the right circumstances, get a bunch of juniors : eg in a school, teach 'em all together and charge them individually, rinse and repeat five days a week, it can be nice and quite profitable. Most of the pupils will be very weak and your playing strength is not as relevant as your ability to motivate and communicate.

That's the upside. That's where the good news ends. You'd have no career progression, the work is extremely unstable (see Covid19) and your situation would be exarcebated by being a mediocre player that would have difficulty in picking up private pupils of any note ($$$).

So no, it would be a horrible career for you to get into, and if you have any other options pursue them instead.

no.

Unless you are shooting for World Champion.

not really. a 3 to 1 ratio means the stronger side has more experience, and whoever is 2000+ is hard to take down.
