Is Chess a "Nerd" game anymore?

Has anything ever been "cool" that the working classes weren't into?
Answer is not really.
I just watched some of the pogchamps final and the first 10 minutes was some random gentleman talking about how difficult it is being a woman.
That's a hard next. Possibly an unsubscribe.
I would not show that to any mates, or they'd think I'd taken a funny turn.
Make the stuff more presentable. Promote it as a mobile game like sudoku or Nintendo braintraining, whilst also having a competitiveness for the gamer crowd too. That's literally how I present it to people who wonder about the hobby.

chess is a game for everyone... always has been. Also... Let's talk about what defines a nerd... If you actually carry knowledge, you are a nerd. I find that dorks often confuse the word "nerd" and "dork".. Mainly because dorks don't know anything..........

It is a nerdy game, however, you can be cool and a nerd at the same time.
Like it's possible to be a 120kg bodybuilder who looks badass, drives a sports car, has good social skills and enjoys chess.
Not all nerds look/act the same way.

Most women will still hold a stereotypical view that guys who play chess are nerdy and unattractive, when actually playing chess has no effect on someone's personality.

In my opinion, chess was never a "nerdy" game. While being good at chess might make you seem like a "genius" to players who haven't learned chess strategy, the things that make you good at chess (memorization, calculation, and even patience) aren't difficult -- they're things basically anyone can do. For example if you had to do the task of adding hundreds and hundreds of single-digit numbers without using a calculator, you could easily do it with patience and time. And if you were to do it, you wouldn't be considered a nerd. I think chess is in a similar way to this.

I agree. Well put.

Not really. I think that chess can be played by anyone, and I don't think that it should be classified as "nerdy"

In short, yes.
People are trying to make it cool recently, but to its core its a nerdy type of game. Look at the social interactions of the top chess players. Usually very awkward.
Doesn't mean everyone that plays it is nerdy, but it certainly does attract nerdy people more so than the average joe.

That's a total BS argument. People used to think video games were "nerdy" too, but now almost everyone plays them. The only anti-social aspect of chess is that players are not allowed to talk during games, but that's hardly enough to call it an activity for nerds.

It’s pretty nerdy tbh. Wouldnt be surprised if a bunch of these famous masters are socially awkward

I feel chess has evolved so much.It used to be something for smart people now all kind of different people play it.I see so much more creativity in chess than solid smart play. What do you think?
