Is chess like Kung Fu?

I was watching a Kung Fu marathon at home. It dawned on me that like all the differnt styles Kung Fu, we have many differnt styles of chess. Praying Mantis, or Caro-Kann, Tiger or Ruy Lopez. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't these two similar?

Kung Fu marathon? If that means real Kung-fu, that would be amazing. I assume it was just movies though?

No, movies. But don't all the different styles remind you of chess?

If you want to hear more on that, I suggest you lay hands on the book "The Art of learning" by Josh Waitzkin, a International Master (or even GM??) AND several times World Cup winner in the disciplin of Tai Chi Pushing hands. I myself enjoyed the book tremendously, not because everything in it is purely true, but...well, that would belong into another thread...

I wrote an article about Kung Fu and chess a couple of years ago.  It's called Chess for Grasshoppers and comes complete with a photograph of Master Po.  You can find it at my web page http://www.tomorrowland.info    Just select Chess from the home page and click on Chess for Grasshoppers from the menu.

I wouldn't take it too seriously, though.

This has to be one of the funniest, and dumbest, forum topics I have heard in my ten months here.

I will use... the drunken cricket tactic to ensnare your bishop.  He will fly through the air impossibly and somehow land upright but on an inefficient square. /cue cheesy music

Depends on how you look at it. Bobby Fischer would have probably mated David Carradine in less than 20 moves. LOL
