Is chess nowadays more of a creativity or of memory???

Pure creativity will get you further in chess than will pure memory. A mix of both is best.
Well thats your opinion. but mine is that creativity is the only best thing and probably is the only ... in chess but mixed with memory will put you at the best spot than the rest BUT still doubt if you are better than the rest...
for example assuming that we can all measure the creativity in chess then if your opponent is of equal creative than you but you have a good memory in terms of chess moves or positions then you might be the winner or the one who has the greater chance of winning... but who is better in pure chess? thats the question...
There is alot of opening book theory, this obviously requires memory. However, if someone is really creative they can deviate from these conventions. At the bottom end of the chess scale, where I live, it's all creativity. I am seeing things for the first time and have to figure them out. I mean trying to mate with two bishops is tough if you have never been show, got to figure it for yourself.

do you think that chess nowadays are more of memory ofthe moves and patern recognitions rather than creativity? we all know thats the reason why GM Bobby Fischer invented Chess960... Right? There are more books and ebooks that speaks about openings. their mainlines and variations etc... Of course there are only few other GM that still has creativity working on their heads... their are players that only recalls such positions in their memory...
I Think that chess is in its mid-life because players has already more and more knowledge about them... Analysis with the computer is a plus for them they rely on computers...
Its difficult to know who is the best players nowadays because of this...
