Is chess unconsciously support racism?

In most ancient and modern cultures day is considered to come before night. Light before dark. I believe that is why white moves first. It has nothing to do with race.

Yes I know, it has nothing to do with race. I said " is chess unconsciously support racism " The key term here is " unconsciously "
No I don't think that light comes before dark.
In religions ( in Christianity I think ) at the beginning there was darkness, then came the light...
In science, at the beginning ( before the big bang ) there is no light , then after the big bang light came.
In this reasoning dark should come first...

Judaism is the only culture I am aware of that considers night before day.
If you agree it has nothing to do with race then why try to inject racism into it? It seems to me that would only further racial division.

Okay, maybe your are right.

You have gone too far... Many people start labeling anything that is not even meant to be racist as racist and that's the problem with the world. You aren't solving anything by doing this. What next, are you going to call go "unconsciously racist" due to their use of black and white pieces? I can also call a fast food restaurant such as Wendy's discriminatory because they don't sell Chinese food or something. By now, some people just point at the most non-racist thing and in anyway try to make it racist

Either way, if the Floyd variation is not adapted, I'm going to play it with my friends over the board...

Jean Marc, thank you for your thoughts. It would be a powerful symbolic gesture for two Grandmasters to play a game in a public venue with "The Floyd Variation."
Rather than criticize the suggestion, I think we should all use this moment to reflect on what actions we can take in our own lives- both tangible and symbolic- in order to dismantle racism.
Black lives matter!

It would be a good idea for chess.com to add this though, to support the movement. I just don't agree with the view of "unconsciously supporting racism"

No offense to the OP’s view, but I think it’s quite silly to think that chess would be racist or even “unconsciously racist” because it existed before modern racism. People just standardized colors and that the lighter color should go first, switch the colors and it still wouldn’t matter.

It's the real racists that always bring up race. Think about it, people bring up race because they want it to be an issue. They want to obsess over it. They want racial trouble, that's why they start it.
By the way, black use to move first in chess.
Black moves first in checkers.
Black moves first in go.
So yeah, black moving first is racist too then. But I'm guessing you don't wanna go on those sites and infer that black moving first is racist. It's always only whitey that the hypocritical finger gets pointed at.
In before the lock.

I wasn't intentionally trying to criticize JeanMarc, more just providing my opinion. I agree there is too much racism in the world and I agree with you that we all should take personal action to help eliminate it. That is why I don't like to insert racial divides where none previously existed.

Bobby Fischer said "The turning point in my career came with the realization that Black should play to win instead of just steering for equality."

I was not saying that chess is unconsciously supporting racism (an affirmation ) No, it was a question ( in the title )
