from when I started chess I always liked the hippo opening and now also but what are your views players?
The Hippo can be fun, but also quite challenging to navigate well. You need to be comfortable in a variety of unconventional structures - and capable of adjusting plans, based on your opponent's setup.
I think it's a defense that's best saved for when a player has more experience with the kinds of structures that the Hippo can transpose to (Closed French structures, Closed King's Indian structures, etc ...). So then they can draw upon that knowledge to use the Hippo in a potent way.
