The previous world champions in chess were from India. Chess was also invented in India. is this theory that Indians are good players true?

It seems to me a lot of the top chess players come from the Caucasus area -- From Ukraine across to Kazakhstan.

True. Only a very small percentage of well-known internationally successful people come out of India, not too many really. India has a few then they think they are the best lol.

Considering how populus India is, India is one of the worst countries for chess. Not very good at all.

From my (somewhat limited) experience, lots of Indian kids, and I mean young kids like 3rd grade at most, play chess and are pretty good for their age, and then it never really goes anywhere. Perhaps the kids play chess because their parents think it'll make them smarter or at least look smart? I really don't know. Sorry if I sound racist though, I really mean no harm. This is just my experience.

Yes, they are hand crafted in Delhi and then exported to Russia.

Not everyone is interested in chess. in india people are interested in cricket. but we do have 44 brilliant grandmasters and the present youingest grandmaster(aryan chopra) . .And i can guarantee you 3-4 year kids can beat the hell out of you sometimes( of course in the game) And we have the future champion Praggananada.  And their is me. do have a game sometime let me show you how bad indian players are.

No way I am getting in a battle with you but take my words India will lead maybe in the next 10 years.

@ Waqar the scenario is no different in Pakistan in terms of poverty so you better control your laughter.

There is definitely a growth in the number of Indian chess players - check out international tournaments and you will find Indians in the list. e.g., Adhiban Bhaskaran played at TATA Steel Chess and was in the top 3-5 where he beat Karjakin and drew with Carlsen.
Sponsors are required for Indian player salaries, professional coaches and international tournament participation. You can't have a process in place without much funds. India has phenomenal potential due to their natural analytical ability but not sufficient funds for a developing a larger base, instead there are a select few but none close to the top 10 though.

Indians are not really that good in chess considering they had 1000s years of practice before the other countries in the world learned the game.

Perhaps they dropped it to concentrate on cricket to beat the British at their own game & piss off kaynight centuries later ...

India is one of the best and fastest developing countries in chess, for sure.

For the moment, USA is busy importing players from other countries, but Indians will follow soon.

India will be "importing" players from other countries soon?

What on earth makes you ask such a preposterous question?
