Is internet chess killing OTB clubs?

It's so easy to log in to chess.com and play anywhere in the world why go to a chess club and meet real people any more? You can even get the League match experience by following the Pro Chess league so why join a local club ( that's to say if you even have one in travelling distance) and have to pay to travel there rent premises ( resulting in high membership fees). Even a platinum membership on chess.com will set you back a lot less. In the future are we all going to sit in our room and have the social skills of little Bobby Fischers but without his chess abilities? And play each other online trolling as we go. I'd be interested what people have to say about this!

Nope...not for me.  I still look forward to Tuesday and going to the club.  Online chess cant replace the actual interaction with people.

The only chess club I know of locally meets in a mall food court (or did, as I haven't checked in a few years). That did more to keep me away from the club than having another option.

Getting beaten by a human OTB feels much better than getting beaten by somene in online blitz. Simply shaking hands and wishing each other good luck makes the experience completely different from online blitz.

Plus, dont forget OTB you get to HIT THE DAMN CLOCK!

No, just a replacement for an amount of time, There will always be clubs or a sect where people meet and handle their passion.

I know the Fresno chess club met at a Burger King, and they had a huge membership.  Even voted club of the year a couple of times.

Yeah, I hate that the scene just didn't work for me. Each of the several players I met left a positive impression on me.

I've never wished my opponent good luck. Why would you do such a thing? It makes absolutely no sense.

What is so bad about playing chess at burger king? Girls werent gonna like you anyways once they figured out that you play chess.

WELCOME TO THE CLUB.

Because I want him to play his best chess, so I can have a good game with actual competiton and learn something from it, which is why I play OTB.

Get a brain and then talk about what makes and does not make sense.

I guess rednecks dont know about courtesy and sportsmanship.

I'm courteous enough but I never have and never will wish my opponent good luck. It's senseless and it even sounds vaguely insulting.

Not vaguely insulting at all. Unless your opponent has an inferiority complex.

In fact I remember saying "have fun and good luck" is expected and seen as corteous in some places...

People have said to me good luck many times, I think its nice, specially when the luck works!

Btw. why always such hard words like killing. Chess is about sport, fun and some social interacting. Imho (I might be wrong) killing is by far the last related to chess. In a club beside these things also beer and female activity may take place, so it will never be replaced (avoiding the bad word killing)  by _only_ online chess.

why would a member of just a month, whom i've never had any contact with,  block me?
