Is it dodgy or helpful to mirror TWIC year by year?

In building a PGN repository, I find that a gap could be filled by putting up the TWIC archives in yearly collections, rather than the weekly collections available at The Week In Chess. I see that people have mirrored TWIC, including going further back than the site's archives. So far my only other concern has been the size of the files, as they're each ~200MB.

My thinking has been:

  1. There's a need for these
  2. People will use my site more (<-- selfish agenda)
  3. Mark Crowther might be upset

Obviously those priorities are not in order. I think it's worth running this past everyone.

I guess I'll interpret that lack of interest as a complete endorsement. ;-)

For the sake of posterity (i.e. Google) it should be noted that ChessDB (which is a fork of Scid) has a feature to query the TWIC site about 400 issues further back than can be accessed on the web page. The TWIC archives can also be found in the Caïssabase, mixed in with the MillionBase. Just in general, it appears that Mark Crowther is pretty laid back with sharing his data.

There is only one major concern, from what I can tell, and that's to not mirror the whole thing. He relies on the £30 donations that are required to obtain the entire database, stretching back to 1994, when he began the project. IMO, as long as he doesn't release the data to the wild entirely, it's never okay to mess with his dinner.
