I downloaded it from here (https://lucaschess.pythonanywhere.com/) then this screen came up.

It says 'Subject to the terms and conditions of this agreement, permission is granted to install and execute the software and use the associated files for personal use. This license does not grant any right of additional use other than the above.

THIS SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED ''AS IS'' AND ANY EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTIES, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE ARE DISCLAIMED, IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHOR OF SOFTWARE BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES (INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, PROCUREMENT OF SUBSTITUTE GOODS OR SERVICES; LOSS OF USE, DATA, OR PROFITS; OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION) HOWEVER CAUSED AND ON ANY THEORY OF LIABILITY, WHETHER IN CONTRACT, STRICT LIABILITY, OR TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE OR OTHERWISE) ARISING IN ANY WAY OUT OF THE USE OF THIS SOFTWARE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGE.'

You can use it, but be careful. You might end up a stormtrooper dancing in a salvage yard.

There's a risk to anything you do on the internet. Having said that, the program has been safe in the past. It's open source software, and the author is accessible. It looks like the new legal notice is standard boilerplate, meaning that Lucas just doesn't want to be sued for providing free software for people.

If you're still concerned about using the program, I guess you could have it inspected by VirusTotal, or you inspect the source code, if you're a programmer type person.

I wouldn't have any problem with using his program, but each person has to make that decision.

At least it's not called Luka or Covid.
