Is the analysis board cheating?

I have to agree, some people have a hard time keeping up with their calculations without setting up a seperate board and that's ok with me. I mean it's not like you are using a computer or getting outside help it is still your moves that are being played.Besides as hitorque said i am more concerned with improving my game

Markie, you literally are using a computer to your advantage to more quickly see if a move has the potential result and shows you all the potential counters inside of 20 seconds.  Is it cheating? No, not in my opinion.  Chess.com has made this engine available to everyone, and apparently the norm. Does give you an advantage?  If it didn't, you wouldn't use it.  In my opinion, it isn't cheating because it's commonly used and everyone has access to it.  However, Chess is a game of thought and time, and when something gives you the ability to make calculations without having to sacrifice the time it would take you to come to that conclusion and give you the added resource of allowing you to calculate every potential legal move in response to your move it is chess with an asterisk.   I like the idea of long games where players have the ability to think about potential moves and counters. I just dislike the idea that since you have all that time, to think about your move that it is ok to utilize a computer to aid your thought.

I would feel completely different if the "analyze" feature didn't show you if the move you're considering is legal, and allow you to quickly analyze all potential legal countermoves and outcomes inside of 30 seconds.

If something is not allowed in OTB games, then it should also be not allowed in live games online.

Catching people cheating will be easier and easier these days.  this website said they don't use computer score to catch people cheat, and they are probably right.

Have you noticed that when you talk to your friends about a subject, and then facebook advertising shows you an ad that is related to the subject?

There are eyes and ears all around you, and the AI can easily collect information and knows whether you cheat or not.  Even if you are in your room using a separate chess board, the AI knows.  This is not science fiction at all.  The only thing this website or any website has to do is to subscribe to this kind of service.

in my opinion it is totally nonsense to ask if something is illegal if the rules say it is legal!

everybody can decide for itself if he/she/it uses the possibility of the analysis tool, but nothing more.

if you don't use the board you give your opponent some advantage, but that is up to you.

I use the analysis and often I insert some comments, what I thought about a move and the situation. later, in the after game analysis I have a look, if my thoughts correlate wirh the engines ideas.

for training my skilles in calculation I do the tactics regularly, where you dont have any other possibilities than to imagine the upcoming moves and situations.

I do use the analysis board but only to check out a move that I intend to use to see if i end up in the position i believe will follow, to check that i havent miss calculated the end position.

Wow, so you cheat? How is the fair to your opponent? I never use use it while in game. You are literally ruining people hard work instead of getting better. You suck.

No they dont mean checking the engine. The engine wasnt on chess.com yet in 2008.
They mean checking their calculations and making analysis moves by themselves!

It literally tells you automatically if your move was good or bad and what move is better.
