I used to have a diamond membership, but then downgraded to a gold membership after I realized I wasn´t using most of the diamond features. Then again, I don't use the chess.com lessons or watch the videos, which may be better for you since you just started, and I used to do way too many tactics in a row, so I'd get tired and tank my rating before stopping. So, that's my two cents.
if you go as low as gold, in my opinion, there isn't much point in paying for an account in the first place

Personally, The price for a Diamond Membership is peanuts compared to how much entertainment, fun and instruction I get from this site. I pay annually, it's even cheaper.

Some of the videos are quite good. Chess Mentor is a mixed bag, some exceptional content; some sorely in need of editing. I pay monthly and barely notice the $14.
i will modify my answer- diamond is worth it if you will be using a pc for most of the time; the mobile app is limited in what it can do so ymmv
