Hello

This is more serious than my normal stuff but is this real and is it coming to chess.com.

http://www.newsbiscuit.com/2010/10/09/new-chess-piece-introduced/

This is what I saw posted by chess.com and is this going to chess.com. why do we need a new piece. The pieces have worked for century's and there has been no flaw but does adding a new piece really make it as exciting as the play station. This is in my opion not good news as it means that lots of new chess sets are going to have to be bought in order to make this work. People often say "Can chess be solved?" the answer is no if we keep on adding pieces that in my opinion aren't really going to be that useful.

What do you think about this change. Good or Bad?

I think the monks name is Brother Satire, so don't worry too much.

The left one was to be named Brother Gullible, but the former GM's decided that the name was too discouraging.

Four of the tags are "satire", "comedy", "news satire", and "spoof news". Now put two and two together.

Also,

"NewsBiscuit is a British satirical news website. It was founded in September 2006 to create a new outlet for British humour on the internet by a group consisting mainly of comedy writers including John O'Farrell." -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NewsBiscuit

From The Onion Sports Network,

"In an effort to increase fan interest in their sport, the World Chess Federation introduces a series of exciting new rules changes, including the removal of two entire rows to speed up matches, and allowing pawns to move an unlimited amount of spaces in any direction."

lol, the Tardis.  I think I have entered a state of chess delerium.  But at least with the Monk perfect play would in fact lead to a win for white

I AGREE WITH THE OTHERS, THIS MUST BE SOME KIND OF A JOKE AND IF IT`S NOT IT WILL NEVER CATCH ON... I MEAN, SERIOUSLY IT IS DIFFICULT ENOUGH AS IT IS AND HAS TAKEN SO MUCH TIME TO MASTER THE GAME FOR SOME PEOPLE AS TO BE THINKING OF NEW RULES ADDED AND GETTING USED TO THEM.

Cool

When i red this i checked if it was april 1th ;)

The monk is here!

SchofieldKid

Anyone who wants to mess with what i consider a already perfect game is welcome to but the first people who try to put the'monk' (also why is the monk carrying a catholic rosary bead?) on my chess board is going to get a can off whoop as handed to them

NO WHY GOD WHY?

We dont need a new piece. Chess is already perfect as it is. I for one, will not play on a board that has the new piece.

So many clues as to the real nature of the article (like posters in this very forum saying "It's a hoax!") and yet....

What ever happened to the much discussed Fool piece? Oh wait, don't answer that one!

kyleevon

Still, it ain't Go.

Do you play Go?? I think Go is awesome, and in fact, there was a bit of time where I was into it a LOT more than chess--but I'm awful at it! I wish I had someone to play against so I could learn it and get better... one awesome thing about Go is that it is MUCH more difficult for computers to play than chess, and will NEVER be solved!

there are people trying to solve different board sizes of "go" but really i guess since one can "make up" any boardsize it would take perhaps several decades longer then chess to solve.  i imagine that chess will be solved in my lifetime, as serveral different sourses are in compeition to be the first to solve it.

I think they should invent a piece called the Marshmallow to make being checkmated a less painful, softer experience. Even I can see it's obviously a hoax.
