Is there any chance that a 1100 rated player can beat a 2500+ rated player?

Of course, I'm talking about games when both players want to win.

I also don't buy %0 percent chance, because I think I can get a win like 1 out of two million games.

Well i want to know, because i'm guessing my real life rating is 1100 something.

I think its 0%. its not that im being rude,, its just impossible. A guy rated 2500+ can still win a game even if he commits lots of blunders, although we can say that there will be very little chance for him to commit such blunder.

But, I can say,  a guy with 1100 rating can still improve skills to a 2000+ rating level then beat those guys over 2500 rating in some other time.

if the rates are reliable then maybe not 0% but likelly the chance of winning are 0.000000000000000001%.

A person with 1100 elo have almost no opening knowledge, no tactics skills and almost no matting pattern knowledge.

Someone with 1900 elo or more will likelly win also without the Queen from the start.

I think you fail to realise that higher the elo is, harder its to raise further more. Its quite easy to improve from 1000 to 1300, but requires a lot more effort to grow from 2000 to 2300.

Impossible......

Alcohol. Lot's of it.

Upsets happen, but at that level they really don't happen.

I played several games at a chess club I went to almost every week for about a year.  My guess is that the players would have USCF ratings of about 1000 - 1300.  I drew one game, I won all the rest (hundreds).  I'm only 1800 USCF.

So, could a 1100 player beat a 2500 player?  Maybe, but they have almost 0% chance.

TetsuoShima

its highly unlikely, even when GMs play 1700 players in serious games they go very soft on them and still win.

GargleBlaster

OK, but what about a 1177 player vs. a 2549?

Crafty on broken PC mode maybe.

Actually, an exact answer to your question can be given, at least from a statistical standpoint.  The rating system is based on a bell curve with a standard deviation of 200√2, which is a little less than 283.  With a 1400 point rating difference, the mathematical expectation for the lower rated player is .000000372.  This means if 2.7 million games are played between an 1100 and a 2500 player, the 1100 player can be expected to pick up one point.

EsooQ

OfCourse if the 2500 underestimated his 1000 elo opponent, and this happened with me.

dankmemes187

i am a 1400 ish player and it took me about 10 games to beat a 2000 rated bot

Absolutely NOT happy.png!

Remember, chess is a game where anything can happen (even 2500s can make blunders sometimes!) can a basketball team comeback from down 40?

There’s a formula to work out the probability. Readily available online. Ran the numbers for you, think the odds are 1 in 3,163 that an 1100 beats a 2500

No this is not possible because most high rated players use a stockfish.

If they were drunk enough then probably.

Nah, that's not how it works... unless they're so drunk it's life threatening... the heart almost stops beating or they have a seizure etc.

But as long as they can still move the pieces there's no amount of drinking that would be enough.
