The problem is the "fast food" mentality. We want things now, at our choosing and convenience, with no regard for the other party. We all know the rules when we start a game, but yet find some reason to complain when the other party do nothing but follow the rules. We feel that rules should bend to our tastes and not others, we feel that the world revolves around us, and how dare he go on vacation during my oh so important chess game...grow up, if you don't have the patience then resign.

Hmmm, I think rules are made for a reason, a rule has an intention, and end result as an objective. I can't believe that the way some people use vacation was the original intention.

I would suggest the bending the rules is actually looking for loopholes and weaknesses in a rule.

You know I was just asking a question.  I have often used vacation time when I travel but even the hotel I am in has internet I will not log in if I am on vacation because I thought it improper.  That is why I asked the question.  Maybe you should actually read the original post BEFORE you comment and tell someone to grow up.  I asked the questions in my original post so that I wouldn't jump to a judgement about my opponent.  I did not make blanket statements.  I was looking for an actual answer.  You however, jumped to conclusions and made sweeping generalizations about my suppossed maturity and lack of patience.

I disagree with you, Tommy, but I am glad you asked the question if it was bothering you.  Whoever said, "stay out of the business" surely didn't mean to suggest that you ought not play here (I hope).  Anyway, I had about a two week period in October or November when I was seriously burnt out on playing.  I lost several games because of bad blunders and I just decided to take some time off from playing.  I was not on a planned vacation.  I continued logging in and doing the daily puzzles and tactics training, but did not move.  It hurt me in my time per move and I have been excluded from a few tournaments because I took this break, but I don't regret it at all and don't think it was an abuse of the spirit of the site either.  Just my thoughts.

I want the right to turn off my vacation allowance if I want to... I am a premium member now and it seems that I have no choice but to accept that if my time runs out, my opponent will not be able to claim the win, because my vacation time is automatic.

Am I wrong -- is there a way for me to turn off vacation?

I've had this exact problem; toward the end of a game (which I was losing and about to resign), my opponent sent a rather unpleasant message. I decided to stop playing and let my time run out, but as you indicated, the site gives premium members automatic vacation time for somewhat over a month.

You could try to cancel this, I suppose, by messaging the staff with a request. I chose not to do this, in order to give this miscreant his "just desserts."

I think vacation time isn't an abuse within itself, but some people certainly abuse it. The losing players usually. Well, thank God there's a finite limit on it, so at one point the losing player will have to lose that game!

It's his right to do anything he wants in his vacation including playing chess, so everything is legal, he would run out of vacation days evantually so where is thr problem?

One way is to be on vacation for ALL corres games or not! That is the only way it's fair!!!!!!

And that's the way it already is.  When someone goes on vacation, they are on vacation on all of their games except those games (such as in some tournaments) that specified at the start that no vacation is allowed.

 What he said is correct.
