Because?

You are supposed to give a reason even when you are staking out a troll's position.

It's hard to say how much a player might improve after his teens.  Some of the great players didn't get much better after that.  Some, like Victor Korchnoi who played for the championship vs Karpov in 1978 and 1981 and lost both times - the first one mostly due to being older and exhausted by a 32 game match - reached his peak in the vicinity of age 50.

Many doubted that Wesley So can go further...even without the World Championship he did really go far... the breaching of the 2800 is already a strong testament.  Kudos Wesley So...keep on climbing. Soon you will get there. Just do not forget to look up happy.png

I don't think So is better than Carlsen but I do think he could win a match against him. For example I still don't think Kramnik was better than Kasparov but he won. I think Magnus from a few years ago is better than Magnus today. I wonder if he has relaxed a little. Maybe losing a match would give him the fire once again and we would see the champ return better than before when he claims the title back. I know i'm not an expert or anything, just my impression.

Magnus Carlsen has a 3-year head-start on Wesley So, and even Wesley is saying it's still premature to be comparing him to Magnus at this time. That said,  the super-elite Norway Chess 2017 tourney in June will give us a better idea where Wesley is vis-a-vis Magnus. Wesley's performance against Magnus and the other Top 8 players will paint a clearer picture as to Wesley's readiness for the World Championship vs. Magnus.
