R.I.P
Jeremy Silman has passed away, aged 69.
Rest in peace and balance, JS.
He was the chosen one, to bring balance to chess.
This topic, however, will get lost buried under the "ama" and "rate me" spam kiddy topics on this great chess site.

Rest in peace, IM Silman.
By the way, Silman has many high quality lessons available on this site, check them out: https://www.chess.com/lessons?author=Silman

What a sad loss for the chess community! Rest in peace, Jeremy, and grateful thanks for all your many contributions. Countless people learned how to play better chess because of you.
I am in shock! Thanks for letting us know, Lotus. I have quite a bunch of Silman-books, and they are written in an entertainig style and valuable in an educational sense.
Thanks Jerry for your great books and many articles here on chess.com.
Chessplayers, especially below 2000 USCF/FIDE, go get and read what you can from Jeremy.

This may be the first eulogy I've ever read that contained an admonishment.
A chess site that specialises in chess news should have picked this story up immediately. That's why I mentioned it. The man was a legend and deserves the notice.

Summary (for those who are not aware who Jeremy Silman is and what he did for the game):

Really shocked to hear this, I had no idea. Shame on you, chess.com, for ignoring it. But above all thanks to Jeremy: his endgame book has been (and still is) incredibly helpful to me. His articles were also many-faceted and inspirational. May he rest in relative peace in the Chess heaven, except for discussions and games with Tal, Capablanca, Morphy, Steinitz, Philidor et al ...
I just heard about this. Apparently he passed away on Thursday, in California.
Unsurprisingly, CC's "News" feature doesn't mention it. It's incompetent and never very up to date.
