Hey guys , I am shriram and my rating is 1800+-.

My goal is reach 2000 In end of the april.

If you any suggestion type it.

Work on positional chess and end games. Its likely that you got to 1800 by primarily working on tactics and some opening ideas. To move further you must work on positional understanding and developing long term strategies early in the game. Capablanca was notorious for trading down as early as the opening to get the end game that he wanted and he knew that he could win. Perhaps, study the likes of Capablanca, Karpov, and Petrosian along with general improvement books.

Great advice. As someone who is almost 2000 rated, I try to work on the positional aspect of the game.

Thanks! I'm over 2000k on another site and I'm studying chess myself to break well past the 2000 mark here as well. Currently, I'm studying "Capablanca's Best Chess Endings". When I finish I'll probably go back and also finish Silman's end game book and figure out where to go from there. Cheers!

I remember I was in 1800 for a while, then I decided to reach 2000, I played a lot and studied a bit, I reached 2000 in 6 months, later 2100, later 2200 and my pick so far is 2300. I didn’t read any book, just played and watched some videos and trained tactics. I think in modern days reading books is the most inefficient way to improve.

Says the guy with an 8 year old account and still no title. The irony.

In fairness, I’ve seen similarly old accounts who have played a similar number of games to TCSPlayer who are still sub 1500.

But books are by no means a waste of time, they have personally helped me quite a bit, especially with my endgames.

I can't take anyone serious who thinks books are either a waste of time or inefficient. Imagine a mathematician or scientist who says he never read a book on the subject and just watched some videos online to learn their job. Anyone can look up an end game book on Amazon, for example, and glance at the table of contents to see the insane amount of patterns someone needs to learn to master the end game alone. Let's not forget the countless tactical and positional patterns, strategies and opening theory involved to master the game of chess. Good luck finding all that information (not just generalizations and truncated information) neatly presented in a concise manner in online videos.

Agreed, I'd credit much of my improvement towards books. Videos helped a lot when I was lower rated, but at some point it becomes inefficient to watch videos. After all, you can read a book, even when there isn't any internet, and you're free to have your own interpretation of the material.

Just don't be like me ;D

Have you perhaps taken in the crazy possibility that he didn't actually play all those 8 years?

First of all among those 8 years, I took break for 2 years have a look at my progress, anf from 1500 I went to upto 2300, in 6 years of just playing for fun not as a job (average 150 points per year), you cannot do that even by studying books, not you but many top grandmasters had similar average progress speed (they usually start at 5-6 to play seriously and they end up getting the GM title at 15 or so, 10 years from 1000 to 2500, averaging 150 points a year, the difference is that they do this as their job, I play chess as fun without any coach). I’m too good in everything I’m doing, including chess.

Second, I never tried to be a Professional chess player, I have many other titles in my life that I don’t need a useless chess title (I think the only advantage of chess title is to have a free diamond membership at chess.com), however, right now I’m in a stage that with a little effort I can get a title, but I think I don’t have time and courage to go play many long games to make up my chess title.

Third, I’m a 2200+ player and quite eligible to talk about how to reach much lower ratings like 2000, you can listen to me or listen to stupid guys you used to listen, but you cannot make a fallacy to downgrade my position on this topic.

4th, you are merely 1700 player, please recognize your limits and stop trashing someone with at least 500 more rating points, I can win against you blindfolded.

Anyways, to OP: IMO in modern days going through books is stupid, there are tones of videos available or even if you want to purchase something, it is better to go with interactive tools instead of old school models.

First of all, you're a 2300 player who misleads lower rated players into thinking they are ever going to achieve a 2000+ rating by just playing chess on their free time. Also, I've been playing about half the time you have and I'm over 2000k across all time controls on other sites. My account here is new and I'm adjusting. I may or may not achieve 2300 but you offer nothing but empty advice.

Lastly, if you had a college education you wouldn't make such uninformed comments about books being "inefficient." There are people who play their entire lifetime and study the game yet never even break 2000. For you to come in and casually suggest or imply that anyone can be a 2300 rated player by simply watching online videos is an insult to all those who work hard to improve at their game.

Magnus himself would be jealous of your claims. Good try, but your story doesn't add up.

TCSPlayer
If I had a college education 😀 okay, please stop continuing this conversation, you just don’t know with whom you are talking. btw, there is no story, everything is completely transparent and visible on my account. Yes, I’m better than many top GMs since I do achieve a same progress as they without putting my whole life on chess (e.g. besides my job, I even discuss with someone like you, but a top GM would never experience such a fun).

Yeah..this. Online rating is so important....its like god. Keep on telling yourself that.

Now its the chess "revolution". Chess.com.

Even Nakamura shills outright for the website...."chess.com rating is the same as uscf" hahaha keep it up.
