just thinking about potential training ideas

I work part time at goodwill as a janitor and clerk. Last week i saw a designer 2000 chess computer donated. It was made in 1988 and it still worked. I picked it up 2 days later for 3.50 dollars. But that had me thinking about using both a quad core tablet running stockfish and a cheap wood board together. Would it be feasable to mirror the game on stockfish on the wood board in order for more realistic training sessions? OR any other chess game to use a tablet as the opponent and mirror his moves on the physical board. I think thats an idea i wanted to share.

Would you want some robot attached to the board to physically move the pieces or would you be willing to make the moves for the computer with little lights on the squares signaling the moves?

They had both of those in the 80's.

I suppose if you plan to play in some tournaments, this might be helpful. I've seen people post that going from a 2d computer screen to a real chessboard negatively affects their playing.

You're saying you want to train on a 3rd board to better mimic real world playing conditions?

3D board

Analyzing on a 3d board / with an engine is fine.  I wouldn't use stockfish as an opponent though.

I'm surprised to hear this. For me OTB play and 2d screens both work equally well, the only thing I do dislike is 3d chess graphics.

I dunno. This is just something I've heard others say. I suppose it is completely possible. You know how some people are resistant to change and adaptation.

Personally, although I don't play much OTB, I don't have much trouble switching between the 2.

Yah, I'm not a fan of 3d graphics either. Looks very strange.
