Knights that have to be Crowned to Move backwards??!

This is a strange tale but absolutely 💯 true!! I have an Area at home with a nice chess set and all my book collections,I am sat and there is a knock at the door, I answer and it's my brother with his mate, this Dan told him you play chess, yes said Dan my Dad taught me I am good player!? he asked if I wanted a game so we set up the pieces and started to play, we played each about 8 moves each when I played my knight on F3 to D2, hey Dan shouts you cannot play that, you cannot move your knights backwards. I asked why, he said you should know they have to reach the 8th rank first before they can move backwards back up the board?? what I said in shock, who told you that, my Dad he taught me to play, couldn't believe what he was suggesting but he really believed this. I should him a copy of the rules which showed him how the knights move but he was having g none of it and off he went In a huff. So there you have it a variation of chess where your knights can only move forwards trouble is they will likely be killed off before they are blessed to move backwards?!!
